홍보부스 운영 성료… 하루평균 방문객 1100명 이상 달성 한국안광학산업진흥원은 지난 5일부터 9일까지 개최된 2024 S/S 서울패션위크에서 아이웨어와 패션 브랜드의 아이웨어 디자인 콜라보레이션 쇼케이스를 성황리에 마무리했다고 18일 밝혔다. 진흥원 측이 마련한 콜라보레이션 홍보부스에는 하루 평균 1100명 이상의 참관객이 방문했으며, 그 중 팔로워수 10만명 이상의 패션 분야 인플루언서들은 안경테 및 선글라스 착용 이미지를 인스타그램에 게시하는 등 K-아이웨어 브랜드와 제품을 홍보하는 시간을 가졌다. 이번 아이웨어 디자인 콜라보레이션 참여 브랜드는 나인어코드(NINE ACCORD)×빅팍(BIG PARK), 노운(KNOUUN)×두칸(DOUCAN), 더블러버스(Double Lovers)×아조바이아조(AJOBYAJO)다. 행사 기간 동안에는 DDP 어울림광장에서 공항을 컨셉으로 부스를 디자인해 아이웨어와 패션 브랜드 간 콜라보레이션한 아이웨어 제품을 전시하고 참관객 누구나 제품을 직접 체험할 수 있는 공간도 함께 마련됐다. 콜라보레이션 패션 브랜드 의류와 아이웨어 제품을 착용한 모델들이 DDP 일대를 순회하며 서울 패션위크 참관객들의 이목을 집중시켰다. 또 트레이드쇼 행사장인 디자인랩 D-숲에는 서울패션위크에 참여한 국내외 패션 바이어를 대상으로 약 3만 달러에 해당되는 거래 상담을 위한 별도의 B2B 상담부스가 조성됐다. 바이어 상담부스에는 서울패션위크에 참가한 다수의 패션의류 및 액세서리 브랜드 대표들이 개별 방문해 아이웨어와의 콜라보레이션 참가에 대한 많은 관심을 보였으며, 이를 계기로 패션 디자이너에게 K-아이웨어를 패션 아이템으로 각인시키는 기회가 됐다고 진흥원 측은 설명했다. 도기태 한국안광학산업진흥원 총괄본부장은 “안경 브랜드 기업의 디자인 역량을 강화하고, K-아이웨어의 패션 아이템으로의 인식전환을 위해 본 지원사업을 처음 기획하게 됐다. 이번 지원사업을 위해 3월에 안경 및 패션 브랜드 기업을 각각 모집하고 일대일 매칭데이를 개최해 최종 참여 브랜드를 확정했다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “뿐만 아니라 패션 브랜드와의 디자인 협업을 통해 K-아이웨어가 패션아이템으로 자리매김하는 계기를 마련했다”며 “앞으로도 더 다양한 분야와의 협업 지원을 통해 한국 안경 디자인이 한층 더 발전하여 글로벌 시장에서 경쟁력을 가질 수 있도록 노력할 것”이라고 전했다.

인간과 돼지의 세포를 조합해 사람에게 이식할 수 있는 신장을 만드는 첫 단계에 성공했다. 중국과 영국 과학자들은 인간과 돼지의 세포를 조합한 키메라 배아를 만들어 돼지 대리모에게 이식해 신장으로 키우는 데 성공했다. 돼지에게 이식한 지 28일 후 ‘인간화된 신장’(humanized kidney)은 사람의 신장과 비슷한 정상 구조와 세뇨관 형성한 것이 관찰됐다. 혈액이나 골격근 같은 조직을 만들기 위해 이번과 비슷한 방법으로 돼지를 이용한 적은 있었지만 이식해 단단한 인간화된 기관으로 성장시킨 것은 이번이 처음이다. 이번 연구에는 중국 광저우 의과학 및 보건 연구소, 중국 과학원 대학(UCAS), 하이난성 동물실험센터, 우이대 의과학 거대 동물 실험실, 지린대 수의대, 중국 과학원 줄기세포 및 재생 연구소, 영국 케임브리지대 임상의학부 소속 연구자들이 참여했다. 이번 연구 결과는 생명과학 분야 국제학술지 ‘셀 스템 셀’ 8일자에 발표됐다. 유전자 가위, 줄기세포 기술 활용이종 세포 결합한 ‘키메라’ 제작 돼지는 사람과 장기 크기가 가장 비슷한 동물이다. 이 때문에 과학자들은 사람에게 장기 이식이 가능한 동물 후보로 돼지를 최우선으로 꼽았다. 문제는 종이 달라 면역 거부 반응을 일으킨다는 것이다. 유전자 가위를 이용해 면역 거부 반응을 없애는 방법이 연구되고 뇌사 환자에게 돼지 신장을 이식하는 실험이 시행되기도 했다. 지난해 1월 미국에서는 유전자 편집된 돼지 심장을 사람에게 이식하는 수술이 세계 최초로 시행됐지만 두 달 만에 사망하기도 했다. 연구팀이 신장에 주목한 것은 이식 수술 중 가장 많이 시행되는 장기이기 때문이기도 하다. 그동안 인공 장기 개발은 쥐의 장기는 쥐를, 돼지의 장기는 돼지를 이용하는 방식으로 진행됐다. 그렇지만 돼지나 생쥐에게서 인간 장기를 성장시키는 실험은 대부분 실패했다. 이에 연구팀은 돼지에게서 인간화 신장을 성장시키기 위해서는 3단계 연구가 수행됐다. 우선 크리스퍼 유전자 가위를 이용해 돼지 배아를 유전자 조작했다. 신장 발달에 필요한 두 개의 유전자가 제거해 돼지 배아 내에서 인간 세포가 성장할 때 거부반응을 일으키지 않도록 했다. 또 연구팀은 어떤 세포로도 발전할 가능성이 있는 다능성 줄기세포를 만들어 세포 성장 과정에서 사멸될 가능성을 줄인 뒤 특수 배지에서 배양해 인간 배아 세포와 유사한 세포를 제작했다. 마지막으로 이 배아를 대리모 돼지에게 이식하기 전에 거부 반응을 억제하도록 조작한 키메라를 형성했다. 연구팀은 이렇게 돼지와 인간 세포를 결합한 키메라 배아 1820개를 13마리의 돼지모에게 이식했다. 연구팀은 이식 25~28일 후 5개의 키메라 배아를 무작위로 추출해 인간화 신장을 성공적으로 생산했는지를 평가했다.분석 결과 25~28일 동안 성장한 키메라 배아는 구조적으로 인간 신장과 비슷한 정상적 형태를 갖고 있었으며 50~60%가 인간 세포로 구성돼 있다는 것을 확인했다. 또 신장과 방광을 연결하는 세뇨관과 관련 세포로 발달할 수 있는 싹이 형성된 것도 발견됐다. 연구팀에 따르면 인간화 신장은 인간 세포가 대부분이었고 배아의 나머지 부분은 돼지 세포로 이뤄져 돼지 체내에서도 거부 반응이 나타나지 않았다. 착상 25일 후 인간화 신장 형성 확인인간화 신장 생산 첫 단계 성공 평가 연구팀은 이번 연구가 인간화 신장 생산의 첫 단계에 성공한 것으로 이식이 가능한 수준의 크기로 성장시키기 위한 연구에 돌입할 예정이다. 또 신장 이외에 심장과 췌장 등 다른 인간 장기 생성을 위한 연구도 진행할 계획이다.연구를 이끈 미구엘 에스테반 UCAS 교수(줄기세포 생물학)는 “이번 연구의 궁극적 목적은 인간 장기의 생산이지만 인간 조직 발달에 관한 연구에도 도움을 줄 것으로 본다”라면서 “장기는 하나의 세포 계통으로 구성되지 않고 사람에게 이식했을 때 나타날 수 있는 문제들을 완벽하게 제어하기 위해서는 더 복잡한 방법이 필요할 것”이라고 말했다.

광학전자 기업 (주)아이엠(대표 김태동)이 신규사업으로 추진하고 있는 필리핀 광물사업이 속도를 내고 있다고 밝혔다. 광물개발은 환경파괴가 수반되는데 필리핀 당국이 이를 최소화하고 복구, 재건하는 사업까지 발주할 가능성이 높아졌고 아이엠이 자회사를 통한 폐플라스틱 재활용 사업을 펼치고 있다는 점도 주목할 대목이다. 21일 아이엠은 필리핀 광물 슬러지를 활용한 백금족 금속(PGM) 및 희토류 원소(RE) 정제사업의 구체적 검토에 속도를 내고 있다고 밝혔다. 아이엠은 지난 6월 필리핀 기업 PGMPI(Philippine General Minerals Project)와 업무협약(MOU)을 맺고 필리핀 남부 난분투란(Nabunturan) 백금족 금속, 희토류 원소 정제 관련 사업에 힘을 보태기로 한 바 있다.업체에 따르면 PGMPI는 지난 2019년 10월 희귀광물 정제 개발을 위해 필리핀 정부 지원을 받아 설립된 국영기업으로, 현재는 민간 기업으로 전환한 가운데 필리핀 정부와 민관합동사업을 진행 중이다. PGMPI는 올해부터 투자금을 바탕으로 시설을 갖춘 후 중앙정부 및 지방정부가 소유한 20개 광산에서 희토류와 백금족금속을 채굴·제련할 예정이다. PGMPI는 기존 채굴업체가 철수한 폐광지역에서 희귀 광물을 친환경적 방식으로 채굴하며 환경 문제 해결 및 지역사회 재건에 힘쓸 계획이다. 무엇보다 정비사업을 진행하는 기업이 거의 없어 PGMPI의 사업 성과 기대감이 커지고 있다. 아울러 PGMPI는 필리핀 다바오데오로(Davao de Oro)주에 위치한 마라구산(Maragusan) 시와도 파트너십 합의서(MOA)를 맺었다. 또 마라구산 시를 비롯해 Davao De Norte 지역의 5개(Mawab, Maco, Moncayo, Pantucan, Nabunturan) 시와 MOA를 체결했다. 이를 통해 PGMPI는 다바오데오로 6개 지역 광산에서 전략적 핵심 광물인 백금족금속(PGMs), 희토류원소(REEs) 등의 정제를 위한 모든 행정적 절차를 마무리했다. 특히 지방 정부와 협력해 제련을 위한 생산 시설을 설치, 가동할 수 있게 됐다. 지난 4월 아이엠이 컨소시엄을 이뤄 실질적으로 인수한 재생에너지 솔루션 기업 에너원이 눈길을 끈다. 환경사업 측면에서 광물슬러지 정제사업은 에너원의 폐플라스틱을 활용한 스팀 생산의 재생에너지 솔루션 사업과 연결된다. 아이엠의 김태동 대표이사는 “글로벌 파트너십을 강화해 해외 광물 슬러지의 원재료 확보와 정제 기술 확보에 주력하고 있다.”며 “에너원을 통해 국내전문기업과 광물 성분 분석 샘플테스트 등을 추진하고 있다”고 전했다.

서울 양천구가 청소년들의 인공지능(AI) 활용 능력과 글로벌 역량 강화를 위해 챗GPT 영어 스피치 경진대회를 연다고 3일 밝혔다. 구와 한국교육방송공사(EBS)가 공동 추진하는 ‘Y교육박람회’의 일환인 이번 대회는 전국에서 처음으로 영어 말하기 대회에 대화형 AI 챗봇인 챗GPT를 접목해 주목받고 있다. 영어 말하기와 챗GPT에 관심 있는 국내 거주 청소년이면 누구나 참가할 수 있다. 대회는 중등부(2008~2010년생)와 고등부(2005~2007년생)로 나누어 개인전으로 치러진다. 오는 22일 오후 6시까지 ‘Y교육박람회 2023’ 공식 홈페이지(http://yeducationfair.com)에서 참가 신청을 받는다. 예선 주제는 ▲AI 인공지능이 우리 삶에 미치는 영향과 가능성 ▲2030 부산 엑스포 유치를 위한 연설문을 작성한다면? ▲친환경 생활과 지속 가능한 에너지 소비에 대한 아이디어 등 3가지다. 이 가운데 하나를 선택한 후 챗GPT를 활용해 영문 원고를 작성하고, 3분 이내 분량의 영어 말하기 영상을 촬영해 원고와 함께 이메일(youthaicontest@all-f.com)로 제출하면 된다. 챗GPT와 외국어 교육 전문가로 구성된 심사위원단의 평가를 통해 선발된 20명은 다음 달 9일 양천구청 디지털미디어센터(3층)에서 본선을 치른다. 이들은 당일 현장에서 공개되는 주제로 즉석에서 챗GPT를 활용해 원고를 작성한 후 말하기로 최종 기량을 겨루게 된다. 수상자는 중·고등부 각각 ▲대상(EBS 사장상) 1명 100만원 ▲최우수상(서울특별시장상) 1명 80만원 ▲우수상(양천구청장상) 2명 60만원 ▲장려상(양천구청장상) 6명 10만원이다. 본선 진출자 모두에게 상장과 총 720만원의 상금을 준다. 구는 9월 7일부터 9일까지 3일간 ‘Y교육박람회 2023’을 개최한다. 교육포럼과 명사 특강, 진로진학 박람회 등 교육에 관한 모든 정보를 총망라한 전국 단위 박람회로 ‘행복한 교육도시 양천’의 인지도를 공고히 하려는 취지로 기획됐다. 이기재 양천구청장은 “챗GPT와 영어 스피치가 결합된 경진대회를 계기로 청소년들이 4차 산업시대를 이끌 글로벌 인재로 성장할 기회가 많아지길 바란다”고 말했다.

서울 금천구 에너지 자립마을 ‘e-금하마을’ 주민들이 금천미래장학회에 1000만원을 기탁했다고 금천구가 1일 밝혔다. 유성훈 금천구청장, 박준식 재단법인 금천미래장학회 이사장과 금하마을 주민 권오훈, 박찬문, 오회옥씨 등 총 14명이 금천구청 소회의실에서 열린 기탁식에 참석했다. 주민들은 마을 회의를 통해 미래 세대를 위해 어른들의 나눔을 실천하자는 취지로 장학 동행에 뜻을 모았다고 구는 전했다. 독산1동 ‘e-금하마을’은 주민들이 자발적으로 에너지전환 사업에 참여하는 공동체다. 에너지(energy), 환경·생태(eco), 교육(education)의 앞 글자를 따서 마을 이름 앞에 붙였다. 2018년 도시재생 뉴딜사업 공모에 선정된 금하마을 주민들은 김장 나눔, 마을 아이 돌봄교실, 어르신 효 국수 나눔 등 3세대가 어울려 살 수 있는 마을을 만들어가고 있다. 이 마을 주민협의체는 에너지 전환을 마을공동체 활성화와 주거 환경 개선 사업과 연계 추진해 2020년 국가 에너지전환 우수사례(시민단체 부문)에 선정된 바 있다. 유 구청장은 “이웃 나눔을 실천해주신 금하마을 주민들께 감사드린다”며 “장학금이 금천구를 이끌 인재들에게 잘 전달되도록 하겠다”고 말했다.

40th Anniversary of Korea-Pakistan Diplomatic Relations…Interview with Pakistan Ambassador to Korea Nabeel Munir This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Pakistan. Could you tell us about your relationship with Korea? Thank you. First of all, thank you for coming and interviewing me. Pakistan and Korea established diplomatic relations in 1983 and that's why we are celebrating 40 years of our establishment of diplomatic relations. But, the actual people to people contacts between Pakistan and Korea are much older. Many of Koreans don't know that buddhism in Korea came from Pakistan. And monk marananta who brought buddhism to Korea almost 1600 years ago was came from Pakistan and his monastery is still here in Korea. In Pakistan, there is also a Buddhist monastery of Monk Marananta in the Swabi region. For the past 40 years, Korea and Pakistan have maintained good relations. During the Korean war, Pakistan supported Korea through financial support, and we were one of the top three financial supporters of Korea during the Korean war. We have an excellent economic relationship and we have a trade relationship that is more than 1.6 billion dollars.  There are many Korean big companies such as Samsung, Kia, Hyundai and Lotte in Pakistan, as well as Korean electric companies that have built hydroelectric power plants. Daewoo, which built Pakistan’s first highway in the 1980s, still have investments in Pakistan and then also on people to people contacts. There are Pakistanis who are living in Korea. There are almost 13,000 Pakistanis living in Korea. They're working in diverse fields. Many of them are students and researchers in the universities. There are Pakistanis laborers who come to Korea. Korea has the EPS and has given a quota to Pakistani laborers. Currently, Korea grants over 2,000 quotas per year to Pakistani workers under the Employment Permit System. Then, we have good defense collaboration and we have good political collaboration. After the ASEAN meeting held in Cambodia last year, the Korean foreign minister visited Pakistan along with the Pakistani foreign minister. I think there is great potential to expand cooperation in the economic aspect between the two countries in the future. We have a population of 240 million and if you compare it with Korea, that's about five times. So you can imagine how big the economy. We have a very large middle class and fortunately, the young population is very large, accounting for 65% of the total population. Korea has a declining population, but, we have one of the fastest growing populations in the world. So, I think that is also why there is human resource that we can provide to Korea as well. I mean that although we have maintained good relations already, but there is a lot of potential for further expansion in the future.Can you please tell us the history and culture that you'd like more Korean to know about Pakistan? As I said, currently, Pakistan is a young country with a population of 240 million, but it has a long history as the origin of several ancient civilizations such as the Indus Civilization. In Pakistan, relics from before the Gandhara Kingdom of 8,500 years ago still remain. So we are one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Then of course, there are stupas from thousands of years ago related to the Gandhara civilization based on Buddhism. Old cities such as Taxila remain, which were centers of art, religion and education during the heyday of Buddhist culture in the 5th century BC. Taxila, located between the Indus and Hydaspes rivers, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. Pakistan has five of the world's 14 highest mountains, including K2 (8611m), the second highest in the world. Nanga Parbat, which is over 8000m high, is considered a dangerous mountain to climb. Adventurous tourists can enjoy river rafting, and there are many beautiful mountains that can be climbed by normal person like me. Pakistan has three of the world's greatest mountain ranges, the Karakoram, Hindu Kush and Himalayas. And we have many tourist attractions including beautiful sandy beaches, deserts, cultural history and religious tourism that can be recognized by name. And we have beautiful four seasons. Due to geographical characteristics, even during summer, we can have a temperature of minus 20 and plus 40 at the same time. Yes, it‘s a big country. Pakistan has an area of 800,000 square kilometers which is 8 times the size of South Korea. So it's a big country. Pakistan was a British colony for 90 years from 1857 and gained independence in 1947. So, the history of the independence movement is also similar to that of Korea. We also went through difficult wars such as the Korean War. Can you introduce some tourist spots in Pakistan to Koreans that Koreans might like? Our national religion is islam, but a lot of Buddhist culture remains. The ‘Statue of Penance of Siddhartha’ in the Lahore Museum is a very important Buddha statue for Buddhists, and was sculpted around the 2nd century as a work of Gandhara art that combines Greek Hellenism and Buddhism. Takti-Bahi, a Buddhist temple built in the early 1st century, is one of the largest and best-preserved Buddhist temples. In my hometown, Lahore, you can see the buildings of the Mughal Empire, which was once the world's largest economy. The beautiful Deosai National Park is an alpine zone with an altitude of 3500 to 5200 m, and is a place of outstanding ecological value. Multan, in the Punjab province, is home to numerous archaeological sites from the early Harappan period of the Indus Valley Civilization, 3300 BC. In addition, there are the Pakistani National Faisal Mosque in the capital, Islamabad, the Mohenjodaro Archaeological Site, the oldest in South Asia, and the Cholistan Desert. The Kalasha are the smallest ethnic group in Pakistan, with only a few thousand remaining. It has been designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage as an ancient tribe with its own way of life, religion, and language. In Multan, a pottery craft called 'Kashi', which is called blue pottery art, is still going on. Truck art is a popular decorative form in South Asia, and truck art in Pakistan is famous for its elaborate and colorful floral patterns and calligraphy.  What should Koreans do to travel to Pakistan? Are there any safety or security issues? There are no direct flights from Korea yet, but it's not too far. There are flights via Bangkok, China, Dubai, Qatar, etc. The shortest route is via Bangkok. It takes about 4 hours from Bangkok to Pakistan. Perhaps if there is a direct flight, you can go to Pakistan in about 6 hours. There are a lot of negative media reports about security issues. There were some security issues a few years ago, but now most Pakistani cities and tourist destinations are considered safe. And also, it is not difficult to apply for a visa and make hotel reservations.   Please tell us about the Korean wave that pakistani are interested in. Korea is becoming very well known. K-pop and k-drama are popular in Pakistan. You can find a lot of BTS fans in Pakistan and my own niece can speak a little bit of Korean now because she watches K-drama through NETFLIX. K-culture is gaining popularity in Pakistan and the Korean Embassy in Pakistan is also planning an event to invite K-pop stars to Pakistan. Personally, I like Korean dramas, so I watched ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Crash Landing on You’.    What are some travel destinations you've been to in Korea so far and which travel destinations in Korea you would like to recommend to Pakistan? I think it’s Busan. I've been to Busan many times and Busan is beautiful city. I also went to the Pyeongchang Ski Resort, where the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics were held, and it was really beautiful. Also, the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) in northern Gyeonggi Province and Pohang were also very good. Recently, I went to Jeju Island. Jeju Island is also a wonderful place.  The most memorable places in Busan are Haeundae Beach and Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. What should be done to make exchanges between Pakistan and Korea more active in the future? I believe that people to people exchange is the foundation of all relationships. When people get to know the other country then they get more interested and then everything else follows whether it's economy whether it's political context whether it's culture. The priority is for more Pakistanis to visit Korea and more Koreans to visit Pakistan. I think more Koreans need to visit Pakistan to clear up their misunderstandings and concerns about Pakistan. I always say that Pakistan is a beautiful country, a safe country to travel in, and a good place to do business that can provide very good opportunities for Korean companies.Yeah. So are you planning to have any big events or conference? Because this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Korean and Pakistan. We will be having an investment conference at Ambassador Hotel in Seoul on 27th of July for which Pakistan's minister for investment is coming. In August, a music night will be held with the support of the Seoul National Cemetery. It will be held at the outdoor theater of the National Seoul Museum. On August 11, concerts such as Arirang will be held in Pakistan. Every October, a multicultural festival held under the theme of one country is held in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. This year's theme is Pakistan. Pakistani musicians give a cultural performance. We are planning a music concert in Seoul in October with cultural and musicians from Pakistan. 극단주의 무장단체 이슬람국가(IS) 지도자가 미군의 공습에 사살됐다고 AP통신 등 외신이 9일(이하 현지시간) 보도했다.  미 국방부에 따르면 7일 시리아 알 밥 지역을 공습한 미군은 시리아 동부지역 IS 지도자인 우사마 알 무하지르를 제거하는데 성공했다.  미군의 이번 공습에는 MQ-9 리퍼 무인항공기(드론)이 동원됐다. 세계 최고 군용 무인기로 꼽히는 MQ-9 리퍼는 무장을 갖춘 무인전투기(UCAV)로, 정보수집과 정찰·감시 및 목표물을 정밀 타격하는 공격 기능을 갖췄다.  MQ-9 리퍼의 무게는 4.7t, 최대 상승고도는 15㎞이며, 다양한 폭탄과 미사일을 장착할 수 있다.  미군은 이번 공습에서 총 3대의 MQ-9 리퍼를 동원했다. 공습 직전까지 MQ-9 리퍼를 비무장한 상태로 운용했으나, 공습이 있던 7일에는 무기를 장착한 상태였다.  공습 과정에서 민간인 사망자는 없는 것으로 알려졌다. 다만 민간인 부상자가 발생했다는 보고에 대해 파악 중이다.  마이클 쿠릴라 미 중부사령관은 “IS는 이 지역뿐만 아니라 그 이상으로 위협”이라면서 “IS를 격퇴하기 위한 태세를 유지할 것”이라고 밝혔다. 이어 “이번 공습이 성공하면서 IS의 테러 능력이 큰 타격을 입을 것으로 전망된다”면서 “미군은 이카크와 시리아 일대에서 파트너와 함께 IS 격퇴전을 이어갈 것”이라고 덧붙였다. 한편, 같은 날 공습에 앞서 러시아 군용기로부터 2시간가량 작전 방해를 받은 것으로 알려졌다.  미 공군 중부사령부 측은 공식 성명에서 “러시아 군용기가 MQ-9과의 위험한 상황을 피하기 위해 만들어진 매뉴얼을 시행했다”면서 “러시아군의 Su(수호이)-34 한 대와 Su-35 한 대가 근접 비행했으며, 이들은 MQ-9에 조명탄을 쏘기도 했다”고 전했다.  지난주 러시아군과 시리아군이 6일간의 합동훈련을 시작했으며, 러시아군은 시리아 국영언론을 통해 “시리아 북부 상공에서 미국 주도의 연합군이 무장 드론을 운용하는 것에 우려하고 있다”고 밝혔다. 시리아에서 IS 소탕 작전 이어가는 미국 IS는 2014년 당시 시리아와 이라크의 상당지역을 장악하고, ‘칼리프 국가’(이슬람 신정일치 지도자인 칼리프가 통치하는 이슬람국가로, 유사 국가체제를 의미)를 선포한 바 있다.  이후 극단적인 이슬람 원리주의로 장악 지역을 가혹하게 통치하고, 납치한 외국인 인질을 잔인하게 살해하는 등 악명을 떨쳤다.  그러나 2018년 미국 등 서방이 주도한 대대적인 격퇴전으로 세력이 위축돼 본거지에서 격퇴했다. IS는 2019년 시리아에서 마지막 영토를 잃은 뒤, 튀르키예의 지원을 받는 반군의 통제 하에 있는 지역을 피난처로 삼고 있다.  미국은 지난해부터 시리아 내에서 IS 소속으로 의심되는 사람들에 대한 급습과 공습 작전을 강화하고 있다.  암살드론 MQ-9 리퍼, 활약 이어져 이번 공습에 이용된 MQ-9 리퍼는 일명 ‘암살 드론’으로도 불린다. 공격능력 뿐만 아니라 정보수집 능력도 강해 주로 시리아와 이라크 등 분쟁지에서 펼쳐지는 대테러 작전에서 활용되고 있다. 기체 조종사, 센서·무기 작동 기술자가 2인 1조로 원격 조종하는 MQ-9 리퍼는 2018년 IS 수장 아부 바르크 알 바그다디, 2020년 1월 이란 이슬람혁명수비대 소속 거셈 솔레이마니 사령관 암살에 사용되기도 했다.  MQ-9 리퍼의 대당 평균 가격은 2800만 달러, 한화로 약 365억 원 수준으로 알려져 있다.  미군뿐만 아니라 영국도 이라크와 시라크 등지에서 대테러작전을 위해 MQ-9 리퍼를 구입해으며, 프랑스와 이탈리아, 스페인, 인도, 일본, 네덜란드 등도 해당 무기를 보유·운용 중이다.

전북대학교가 영국 타임스 고등교육(THE, Times Higher Education)이 최근 발표한 ‘2023 THE 아시아 대학평가’에서 국가거점국립대 가운데 3위에 올랐다. 전북대는 이번 평가에서 국내 20위를 기록, 지난해보다 2단계 상승했다. 이번 평가는 아시아 669개 대학을 대상으로 교육(25%)과 연구(30%), 피인용(30%), 국제화(7.5%), 산업소득(7.5%) 등 5개 분야 13개 평가지표로 순위를 매겼다. 전북대는 5개 모든 평가 분야에서 점수가 지난해보다 상승했다. 총점은 30.01점으로 지난해 대비 1.57점 높았다. 특히 논문 피인용과 국제화 등 2개 부문이 국가 거점국립대 가운데 두 번째로 높았다. 양오봉 총장은 “최근 THE 세계대학 영향력 평가에 이어 높아지고 있는 우리 전북대의 위상이 여러 지표에서 확인되고 있다”며 “학생이 중심이 되는 대학, 지역과 상생발전 하는 플래그십 대학의 위상을 확고히 하고, 세계적인 글로컬대학으로 나아가기 위해 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

에듀테크 기업 유비온이 지난 4일 구로 엘컨벤션에서 열린 비저닝데이에서 새로운 기업 비전 설명과 함께 새로운 CI를 공개했다. 유비온이 새롭게 선보인 CI 로고는 영문 사명 ‘UBION’을 워드마크로 만들었으며 진한 하늘색을 단색으로 사용해 진중하고 세련된 브랜드 이미지를 표현했다. 또 이번 비저닝데이에서는 공식적으로 AIED(AI in Education) 비전을 선포하고, 챗GPT 같은 생성형 AI에 기반한 학습경험플랫폼을 통해 보다 발전적인 AIED 디지털 생태계를 구축하겠다는 의지를 밝혔다. 이날 행사에는 생성형 AI 사내공모전 시상식도 함께 진행됐다. 자사 제품·서비스에 적용할 혁신적인 아이디어와 업무생산성 향상을 위한 아이디어 공모를 통해 최종 8개 팀이 선정돼 1200만원의 포상금을 받았다. 이어진 우수작 사례발표에서도 임직원들의 높은 관심과 호응이 계속됐다. 특히 유비온은 비전 발표 이후 빠르게 AI 기반의 제품과 서비스를 선보일 예정이다. 이달 내 자사 학습플랫폼인 ‘코스모스(Coursemos)’ 내에서 원스탑으로 활용할 수 있는 ‘AI 튜터’와 ‘AI IBT(Internet Based Test)’ 솔루션 등을 공개한다. 150여개 이상의 대학 및 기업 플랫폼 구축 실적을 갖고 있는 만큼 이러한 솔루션 보급이 실질적인 AI 학습환경 확대에 기여할 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.임재환 유비온 대표이사는 “에듀테크는 생성형 AI를 통해서 3세대 AIED 단계로 본격 진입하게 됐다”며 “이번 CI 교체는 유비온이 AIED를 통해 한 단계 더 도약하겠다는 자신감과 의지를 나타낸다”고 밝혔다. 또 “우리는 계속해서 고객들이 유비온의 생성형 AI 기반 학습플랫폼을 통해 다양한 학습 경험을 할 수 있는 환경을 만들고 직원들 또한 모든 직무에서 인공지능을 적극적으로 활용할 수 있는 업무체계를 만들어가겠다”고 설명했다. 한편 유비온은 2000년에 설립된 에듀테크 1세대 기업으로 23년간 교육 콘텐츠 서비스, 플랫폼 구축, 솔루션 개발, 해외 교육 ODA사업 등을 주력으로 수행하며 국내외 에듀테크 사업을 이끌어왔다. 지난 2012년에는 ‘Edtech Vision’을 선포하고 R&D센터를 설립한 이후 에듀테크 사업에 집중해왔다. 또한 작년 11월 코스닥 상장으로 에듀테크 기업의 기술력과 가능성을 인정받았으며 AI·빅데이터 등의 신기술 교육서비스와 글로벌 학습플랫폼 전문기업을 목표로 사업을 확장해가고 있다.

브라질이 사상 최대 규모의 샥스핀(상어지느러미) 밀반출을 막아냈다.  브라질 국가기관인 환경ㆍ천연자원연구원(IBAMA)은 “밀수출할 준비가 완료돼 있던 샥스핀 28.7톤을 압수했다”고 20일(현지시간) 밝혔다. 환경ㆍ천연자원연구원은 “정확한 내용(기록)을 확인하진 못했지만 아마도 샥스핀 압수물량으론 세계 역사상 전례 없는 사상 최대의 규모일 것”이라고 설명했다.  관계자는 “샥스핀이 밀반출된 이후 밀수한 국가에서 적발되는 경우는 많지만 원산지에서 밀수 전 적발한 사례는 많지 않다”며 “특히 물량도 유례없이 많아 이번 작전엔 특별한 의미가 있다”고 말했다.  정보를 입수하고 수사 중이던 당국은 2곳을 압수수색해 샥스핀을 무더기 찾아냈다. 1차 압수수색은 브라질 남동부 산타카타리나주(州)에 소재한 한 수출업체의 창고에서 진행됐다. 회사에는 밀수를 위해 완전하게 준비를 마친 샥스핀 27.7톤이 숨겨져 있었다. 브라질 당국은 문제의 회사에 대한 구체적인 정보를 공개하진 않았다.  상파울로 국제공항에서 진행된 2차 압수수색에선 샥스핀 1톤이 추가로 발견돼 전량 압수됐다.  샥스핀은 중국 등 아시아로 밀반출될 예정이었던 것으로 보인다. 관계자는 “샥스핀이 어디로 밀반출될 예정이었는지는 추가로 수사를 해봐야 드러나겠지만 샥스핀을 최고의 요리로 여기는 아시아로 향할 예정이었을 가능성이 많다”고 말했다.  현지 언론에 따르면 홍콩 등 아시아에선 샥스핀이 kg당 1000달러에 거래된다. 홍콩에서만 연간 5억 달러 상당의 샥스핀 물량이 거래되고 있다.  30톤에 육박하는 샥스핀을 얻기 위해 불법으로 포획한 상어는 최소한 1100마리로 확인됐다. 환경ㆍ천연자원연구원은 “압수한 샥스핀을 확인한 결과 푸른 상어(학명 Prionace glauca) 4400마리, 청상어리(학명 Isurus oxyrinchus) 5600마리가 희생된 것으로 파악됐다”고 밝혔다. 브라질은 지난 5월 청상어리를 멸종위기종으로 지정했다.  관계자는 “상어조업은 금지돼 있지만 다른 어종 조업 라이선스를 취득한 후 몰래 상어잡이에 나서는 경우가 많다는 건 공공연한 비밀”이라며 “샥스핀을 얻기 위해 멸종위기에 처한 상어까지 무차별적으로 잡아들이고 있다는 게 확인된 셈”이라고 말했다.  현지 언론은 “9000km에 달하는 해안을 가진 브라질에서 불법조업을 완벽하게 단속하기란 사실상 불가능하다”며 특히 아마존과 가까운 곳에서 사실상 단속이 전혀 이뤄지지 않고 있다고 보도했다.  사진=브라질 당국이 압수한 샥스핀. 세상에는 맛있는 음식이 너무 많다. 달달한 초콜릿과 여름철이면 생각나는 아이스크림, 입을 즐겁게 해주는 여러 가지 과자와 디저트가 가득한 세상이다. 문제는 우리 입에 살고 있는 충치균도 이런 음식을 좋아한다는 것이다.  치아 사이에 잘 달라붙는 끈적하고 달콤한 음식들은 스트렙토코쿠스 뮤탄스 (Streptococcus mutans) 같은 충치균을 위한 양식이 된다. 물론 매일 같이 칫솔과 치약으로 양치하면 상당수 충치균과 음식물 찌꺼기가 씻겨 나가긴 하지만, 스트렙토코쿠스 역시 생존을 위한 비장의 무기가 있다. 바로 생물막이다.  생물막은 세균이 분비하는 물질로 된 막으로 세균들이 거친 환경에서도 안심하고 살아갈 수 있는 든든한 울타리가 된다. 구강 내 세균이 치아에 만드는 생물막은 플라크(치태)라고 부른는데 다른 음식물 찌꺼기와 뭉치고 돌처럼 단단해지면 바로 치석이 되어 쉽게 제거하기 어려워진다.  과학자들은 플라크와 치석 형성을 막기 위해 이 과정을 자세히 연구했다. 최근 펜실베이니아 대학의 치의학과의 연구팀은 스트렙토코쿠스를 은밀히 돕는 조력자를 발견했다. 그 조력자는 바로 셀레노뮤나스 스푸티제나 (Selenomonas sputigena)라는 다른 세균이다.  세균이 만드는 생물막는 보통 처음에는 유전적으로 동일한 하나의 세균에서 시작되지만, 여기에 다른 세균들이 끼어들어 더 크고 튼튼한 생물막을 만들기도 한다. 셀레노뮤나스는 스트렙토코쿠스 뮤탄스가 생물막을 만들기 위해 분비하는 끈적한 물질인 글루칸 (glucan) 위에 붙은 후 벌집 모양의 구조물을 만들어 생물막을 더 튼튼하게 보강한다. (사진) 셀레노뮤나스는 다른 세균이 만든 생물막에 단순 무임 승차하는 세균이 아니라 사실은 충치균을 보호하는 든든한 조력자인 셈이다.  구강 내 세균이 생물막을 견고하게 만드는 과정을 이해하면 이를 효과적으로 억제할 치료법과 치약 등을 개발하는 데 도움이 된다. 앞으로도 이에 대한 연구는 계속 진행될 것이다. 

한미약품은 희귀질환 치료제로 개발 중인 신약후보물질에 대한 연구 결과를 미국 시카고에서 열리는 세계내분비학회(ENDO)에서 발표한다고 16일 밝혔다. 한미약품은 단장증후군 치료제로 개발 중인 ‘LAPSGLP-2 analog(HM15912)’과 선천성 고인슐린혈증 치료제 후보물질 ‘LAPSGlucagon analog(HM15136)’에 대한 모두 3건의 연구 결과를 발표한다.단장증후군과 선천성 고인슐린혈증은 현재 치료제가 없거나 쓰이고 있는 치료제의 한계가 뚜렷한 희귀질환이다. 단장증후군은 선천적 또는 후천적 원인으로 전체 소장의 60% 이상이 소실돼 흡수 장애와 영양실조를 일으키는 희귀질환으로, 신생아 10만명 중 약 24만 5000명에서 발병해 소아청소년기 성장에 심각한 영향을 미친다. 선천성 고인슐린혈증은 2만 5000명~5만명당 1명꼴로 발병하는 질환이다. 승인된 치료제가 1개 있지만 치료 반응률이 낮다. 이번 학회에서 단장증후군 후보물질에 대한 연구 결과 2건이 발표된다. 이 후보물질의 소장 융모세포 성장 촉진 효과와 흡수 능력을 비교 평가한 연구다. 결과에 따르면 매일 혹은 주 1회 용법의 치료제를 투여하다가 월 1회 용법인 ‘HM15912’로 전환해 투여했을 때 더 우수한 효능이 나타났다. 또 다른 후보물질 ‘HM15136’은 체내 포도당 합성을 촉진하는 글루카곤의 짧은 반감기와 물리화학적 성질을 개선한 것이다. 심각한 저혈당이 지속되는 선천성 고인슐린혈증 치료제로 개발되고 있다. 이번 연구에서는 선천성 고인슐린혈증 동물 모델에서 이 약 반복 투여 시 심각한 저혈당이 용량 의존적으로 개선됐다. 해당 효력을 통한 정상 혈당이 지속해서 유지되는 효과가 나타났다. 한미약품 관계자는 “새로운 치료 패러다임을 제시할 수 있는 두 후보물질을 빠르게 상용화할 수 있도록 연구 역량을 집중해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

  “유럽에서 가장 오래된 도시인 세르비아의 수도 베오그라드는 세르비아 고유 문화 뿐 아니라 오스트리아, 헝가리, 터키 오스만 제국의 영향을 받은 역사적인 도시입니다.” 네마냐 그르비치(Nemanja Grbic) 세르비아 대사는 13일 서울 중구 세종대로 주한 세르비아 대사관에서 “세르비아가 한국에는 잘 알려져 있지 않지만 베오그라드에는 발칸반도에서 제일 큰 성당인 성 사바 성당(St.SavaTemple)과 14세기 지어진 칼레메그단(Kalemegdan) 요새가 있다”며 이같이 말했다. 그르비아 대사는 이어 “세르비아는 유럽연합 가입 공식 후보국이며 ICT(정보통신기술) 분야가 빠르게 성장하고 있는 국가”라며 “세르비아는 ICT 등 4차 산업혁명과 지식기반 산업을 최우선에 두고 있다”고 강조했다. 남동부 유럽의 발칸반도 중앙에 위치한 세르비아는 오랜 내전과 전쟁으로 ‘발칸의 화약고’로 불렸지만 지금은 민주화가 이뤄졌고, 사회가 안정화되면서 디지털 강국으로 변모하고 있다. 테슬라 자동차의 원리를 개발한 과학자가 바로 세르비아계 미국인인 니콜라스 테슬라(1856~1943)다. 세르비아 화폐에도 등장하는 인물이다. 그르비아 대사는 한국과의 관계에 대해 “세르비아는 한국에 매우 우호적인 국가”라면서 “10대와 20대를 중심으로 ‘한류’가 빠르게 확산되고 있는 상황에서 양국의 교류가 더 많아졌으면 좋겠다”고 말했다. 이어 “최근 베오그라드에 한국 식품 매장이 문을 열었는데 이틀 만에 모든 물량이 매진되었다고 들었다”면서 “젊은 세대간의 여행과 교육 등에서 교류가 이어지고, 한국의 많은 기업들이 진출하길 희망한다”고 강조했다. 다음은 그르비치 대사와의 일문일답.    ▷ 세르비아는 어떤 나라인가. - 세르비아는 동남유럽의 교차로에 위치한 역사와 전통이 매우 풍부한 나라다. 북쪽으로 헝가리, 북서쪽으로 세르비아, 남쪽으로 불가리아, 동쪽으로 루마니아와 경계를 이루고 있어 역사적으로 때로는 좋은 영향을 받기도 했고, 때로는 나쁜 영향을 받기도 했다. 현재는 주변 국가들과 좋은 이웃 관계를 맺고 있다. 현대 민주주의 국가이자 유럽연합 가입 공식 후보국이며 경제가 빠르게 성장하고 있다. 한국과는 지리적으로 먼 나라지만 문화와 전통에 있어서는 상당히 가깝다고 생각한다. 앞으로 양국 간 협력을 강화할 수 있는 좋은 기반이 있다고 생각한다. 그리고 테슬라 자동차 테슬라 자동차 회사는 누구나 알고 있지만 테슬라의 원리를 개발한 과학자가 세르비아계 미국인인 니콜라스 테슬라(1856~1943)라는 것을 한국에서는 아는 사람이 많지 않다. 그는 세르비아 가정에서 태어났고 나중에 미국으로 이주했다. 세르비아 주요 관문이 그의 이름을 딴 니콜라 테슬라 공항이고, 세르비아 화폐에도 등장한다.      ▷ 한국인에게 추천하고 싶은 관광명소는. - 세르비아에는 역사와 문화 유산을 탐험하길 좋아하는 한국인들에게 추천할 만한 많은 관광지가 있다. 수도인 베오그라드라는 유럽에서 가장 오래된 도시이자 역사적인 도시로 세르비아 고유 문화 뿐 아니라 오스트리아와 헝가리, 터키 오스만 제국의 영향을 받은 곳이기도 하다. 베오그라드에서 꼭 가봐야 할 곳은 베오그라드 요새로 불리는 칼레메그단과 세계에서 가장 큰 정교회 중 하나인 성 사바 성당이다. 칼레메그단은 중세 시대인 14세기와 15세기에 지어진 것으로 도시의 문화와 역사의 중심지였다. 경치가 아름다운 사바강과 도나우강이 만나는 스타리그라드의 높이 125.5m 지대에 있다. 정상에서는 두 강이 합류해 흑해로 흘러가는 아름다운 모습을 볼 수 있다. 요새 안에는 박물관과 정원, 동물원 등 다양한 볼거리가 있다. 흥미로운 이야기는 이곳 동물원에 세계에서 가장 나이가 많은 악어가 살고 있다. 정확하게 몇 살인지 확실하지는 않지만 1, 2차 세계대전을 두 번이나 겪으면서도 살아남았다. 아마 100살 정도 됐을 것이다. 성 사바 교회는 세계에서 가장 큰 정교회 중 하나다. 100년 전에 지어지기 시작해서 몇 년 전에야 완공됐다. 1, 2차 세계대전, 유고슬라비아 전쟁 등 전쟁과 격동의 역사를 겪으면서 많은 시간이 걸렸기 때문이다. 13세기 세르비아 정교회의 설립자인 ‘성 사바’를 기념해 비잔티움 건축 양식으로 지은 대성당이다. 세르비아에 역사적이고 중요한 장소다.     ▷ 세르비아를 방문하려면. - 아직 한국에서 세르비아로 가는 직항편이 없다. 보통 터키나 카타르, 아랍 에미리트 등을 경유한다. 폴란드 등 주변 국가를 통해서 올 수도 있다. 치안은 여행객들이 다른 나라르 여행할 때와 마찬가지로 일반적 안전 사항만 준수한다면 안전한 국가이다. 관광객의 안전을 위협할 만한 시위나 전쟁 등의 상황은 없다. 세르비아는 매우 따뜻한 마음을 가진 사람들이고 외국인 관광객들의 방문을 좋아한다. 한국인들의 많은 방문을 기대한다.    ▷ 세르비아에 한류가 어느 정도 알려졌나. - 세르비아에서 자란 중장년층은 한국에 대한 정보를 많이 접하지 못했기 때문에 아직은 많이 알지 못한다. 하지만 10대나 20대와 같은 젊은 세대들은 K팝, K드라마, K무비, K푸드, K뷰티 등을 통해 한국에 대해 많이 알고 있다. 최근 베오그라드에 한국 식품 매장이 오픈했는데 이틀 만에 모든 물량이 매진되었다고 한다. 그만큼 한국 식품의 인기가 높고, 그만큼 한국에 대한 이미지가 좋아지고 있다는 뜻이다. 예전에도 양국의 관계가 좋았지만 이는 양국 교류를 확대하기 위한 매우 매우 긍정적인 추세라고 생각한다. 방탄소년단(BTS)이나 블랙핑크 같은 그룹이 인기가 많다. 세르비아에서 K팝을 온라인 등으로 판매하는 유학생들도 많이 있다. 태권도도 큰 인기다. 세르비아도 국제대회에서 태권도로 많은 메달을 땄다. 태권도 올림픽에서 2명이 금메달을 땄는데 결승에서 종주국인 한국 선수들을 이기고 금메달을 땄다. 세르비아에서도 태권도가 인기가 많기 때문에 앞으로 두 나라 간의 태권도 교류 등을 통해 관계를 더욱 돈독히 하고 싶다.     ▷ 세르비아에 유명한 스포츠 선수들이 많은데 - 세르비아는 축구, 농구, 배구, 테니스, 수구 등에서 세계적인 선수들이 많다. 대사관에 들어올 때 보셨듯이 테니스 메이저대회 23회를 우승한 노박 조코비치라는 아주 유명한 테니스 선수가 있다. 또 다른 선수는 NBA 덴버 너기츠에서 뛰고 있는 니콜라 요키치다. 이 두 사람이 요즘 세르비아에서 가장 인기 있는 스포츠인이라고 할 수 있다. 세르비아는 체격 조건이 좋고, 다양한 스포츠에서 매우 오랜 전통을 가지고 있다. 저도 테니스 등 다양한 스포츠를 즐긴다. 세르비아 테니스협회 홍보대사로 대한테니스협회와 다양한 교류를 하고 있다.    ▷ 좋아하는 한국 드라마나 한국 영화는. - 아내와 한국 드라마를 많이 본다. 한국 드라마를 통해 한국어를 배우려고 노력하고 있고, 드라마를 통해 한국의 문화, 특히 사회적인 면을 많이 배우고 있다. 최근에는 ‘킹덤’과 ‘글로리’를 봤다. 제가 개인적으로 좋아하는 드라마는 ‘서른아홉’이다. 저보다 조금 어린 세 친구에 대한 이야기라서 나이적으로 공감할 수 있었다. 이 드라마는 어렸을 때부터 친구들 간의 관계, 연인 간의 관계, 직장에서의 관계 등 한국 사회의 모습을 많이 볼 수 있어 흥미로웠다.     ▷ 세르비아가 디지털 강국으로 성장하고 있는데. 세르비아는 생명공학이나 게임 산업, 인공지능, ICT 등의 분야에서 굉장히 빠르게 성장하고 있다. 예전에는 농업이 우리 경제의 주요 부분이었다면 이제는 ICT라고 생각한다. 그래서 우리 ICT 기업들이 세르비아에서 설립된 ICT 기업뿐만 아니라 세계 각지에서 세르비아로 온 ICT 기업들도 많이 수출을 하고 있다. 4차 산업혁명과 지식 기반 경제와 관련된 모든 것이 우리 정부의 우선 순위이자 초점이 되고 있다. 한국은 디지털 분야에서 세계 최고 국가 중 하나다. 그래서 한국으로부터 배우고 싶고, 이 분야에 대해 교류를 확대하고 싶다.   ▷세르비아가 ICT 분야에 성장 비결은. - ICT 관련 인력이 부족한 요즘 세르비아에는 관련 교육을 받은 많은 우수한 인재들이 있기에 가능하다. 이들은 공학과 자연과학 분야에서 매우 훌륭한 교육을 받았다. ICT 분야의 경우 큰 공장이 필요하지 않기 때문 빠르게 성장할 수 있었다. 최근 세르비아의 게임 회사 몇 곳이 한국에 와서 한국게임협회와 게임 회사 등과 만났다. 게임과 e스포츠 강국인 한국으로부터 게임 분야의 스타트업들이 어떻게 하면 더 크게 성장할 수 있는지, 어떻게 하면 더 좋은 환경을 조성할 수 있는지를 배우고 싶다. 그래서 이 ICT 게임 분야에서 많은 교류를 할 수 있을 것 같고, 전자정부와 스마트시티 분야에서도 매우 강력한 협력 관계를 맺고 있다. 현재 세르비아에서 두 번째로 큰 도시인 노비사드(Novi Sad)는 한국개발연구원, 삼성SDS와 함께 스마트시티 역량을 구축하는 프로젝트도 진행하고 있다.    ▷ 젊은 세대 간의 교류를 활성화하려면. - 앞서 언급한대로 양국 간 여행이 중요하다고 생각한다. 또 하나는 교육 교류다. 매년 세르비아에서 글로벌 커리어 장학생으로 한국인 5명 정도 뽑는다. 이 외에도 대학원 석사, 박사 과정을 여기서 공부하고 있는 학생들의 숫자가 매년 늘어나고 있다. 매년 5명을 뽑는 글로벌 커리어 장하생에 500~600명 정도가 지원한다. 한국외국어대학교에 세르비아어학당이 있는데 매년 50~60명 정도의 학생들이 세르비아어를 공부하고 있다. 최근 세르비아 여행 인플루언서 3명이 한국을 방문해 한국을 아주 멋지게 홍보해줬다. 그들은 주로 서울에 머물렀지만 서울 외의 다른 도시도 방문했고 이를 세르비아에서 많은 호응을 얻었다. 세르비아도 한국 인플루언서들과 영화 제작자, 드라마 제작자들이 찾을 수 있도록 더 많은 노력을 기울일 생각이다. 세르비아에서 한국 드라마를 촬영하면 관광객들에게 큰 인기를 얻을 수 있을 것으로 생각한다.    ▷ 세르비아 사람들에게 추천하고 싶은 한국 관광지는. - 세르비아에서 한국에 온 손님들에게 제가 개인적으로 가장 좋아하고 항상 추천하는 곳은 강원도다. 특히 속초, 강릉, 양양, 설악산이다. 서울에서 그리 멀지 않으면서도 아름다운 산과 숲, 스키, 하이킹, 해변 산책을 즐길 수 있다. 한국의 많은 지역을 방문했지만 특히 동해안 지역과 강원도는 이미 10번 정도 가봤고, 더 가볼 생각이다. 최근 제주도에 처음 갔는데, 제주도는 독특한 문화와 식생 등 모든 것이 다르기 때문에 꼭 추천하고 싶은 곳 중 하나다. 화산섬과 아름다운 해변, 바다, 그리고 흑돼지 삼겹살은 확실히 추천하고 싶다. 경기 파주나 판문점 같은 서울 북쪽의 아름다운 자연과 유적지, 아름다운 강 호수 같은 곳도 좋아한다.     ▷ 끝으로 한국인들에게 하고 싶은 말씀이 있다면. 인터뷰 초반에 강조했지만 세르비아는 한국에 우호적인 국가라는 점이다. 세르비아 국민들은 한국인들에게 우호적이고, 한국에 대한 이미지가 매우 긍정적이어서 더 많은 한국인들의 방문을 환영하고 있다. 최근 관광객뿐만 아니라 학생과 전문직 종사자, 그리고 세르비아에 투자하는 한국 기업들도 늘어나고 있다. 더 많은 한국 기업들의 진출을 희망한다.   Serbia, at the crossroads of Southeast Europe... Interview with Serbian Ambassador to Korea Nemanja Grbic [Hello World]   “Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, the oldest city in Europe, is a historic city influenced by Austria, Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire as well as Serbia’s own culture.” Serbian Ambassador Nemanja Grbic said at the Serbian Embassy in Seoul on the 13th, “Serbia is not well known in Korea, but in Belgrade there is a largest cathedral in the Balkans, St. Sava Temple and there is a Kalemegdan Fortress, built in the 14th century.,” “Serbia is an official candidate for joining the European Union, and the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) field is growing rapidly.” Ambassador Grbic said, "Serbia puts the fourth industrial revolution and knowledge-based industries such as ICT at the top of its list." Serbia, located in the center of the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe, was called the 'powder keg of the Balkans' due to long civil war, but is now being democratized and transformed into a digital powerhouse as society stabilizes. The who developed important inventions in the field of electrical engineering was Nikola Tesla (1856~1943), a Serbian-American. He is also featured on Serbian currency. Regarding the relationship with Korea, Ambassador Grbic said, "Serbia is a very friendly country to Korea," adding, "I hope there will be more exchanges between the two countries at a time when the 'Korean Wave' is rapidly spreading, especially among teenagers and young people in their 20s." "I heard that a Korean food store recently opened in Belgrade, and all the goods were sold out in two days," he said. "I hope that exchanges will continue in travel and education among young generations, and that many Korean companies will enter Serbia." The following is a Q&A with Ambassador Grbic.  ▷ What kind of country is Serbia? - Serbia is a country with a very rich history and tradition located at the crossroads of Southeast Europe, which historically affected it both for good and bad. It is bordered by Hungary to the north, (Bulgaria and Romania to the East), North Macedonia and Montenegro to the South, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia to the West. Currently, it has good neighborhood relations with neighboring countries. Serbia is a modern democracy, an official candidate for EU membership, and its economy is growing rapidly. Although Korea is geographically far away, but I think it is quite close in terms of culture and tradition. I think there is a good foundation to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the future. And although everyone knows about Tesla cars, not many people in Korea know that the scientist who inspired Elon Musk was Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), a Serbian-American scientist in the field of electrical engineering. He was born into a Serbian family and later moved to the United States. The main Serbian gateway is Nikola Tesla Airport named after him, and he also appears in Serbian currency.  ▷ What are the tourist attractions you would like to recommend to Koreans? - Serbia has many tourist destinations that are recommended for Koreans who like to explore history and cultural heritage. Belgrade, the capital, is one of Europe's oldest and most historic cities. It is also a place influenced not only by Serbian culture, but also by Austria, Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. Just Ottoman Empire is enough, no need to put both Turkey and Ottoman Empire. The must-visit places in Belgrade are Kalemegdan, called the Belgrade Fortress, and St. Sava Cathedral, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.  Kalemegdan was built it is much older than that, first fortifications go back to Celtic and Roman period, so it was built during an ancient era, and was the cultural and historical center of the city. It is located at an altitude of 125.5m in Stari grad Old town, where the scenic Sava and Danube rivers meet. At the top, you can see the two rivers merge after which Danube continues its flow into the Black Sea.  Inside the fortress, there are various attractions such as museum, garden, and a zoo. An interesting story is that the world's oldest crocodile lives here in this zoo. I'm not sure how old it is, but it survived two World Wars. Probably more than 100 years old.  St. Sava is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. It started to be built 100 years ago and was only completed a few years ago. This is because it took a lot of time to go through wars and turbulent history, such as World War I and II, and the Yugoslav Wars. It is a cathedral built in the Byzantine architectural style in commemoration of 'Saint Sava', the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the 13th century. It is a historical and important place in Serbia.  ▷ How to visit Serbia? - There are no direct flights from Korea to Serbia yet. There are usually flights via Turkey, Qatar, and the Arab Emirates. And we can also come through European countries such as Poland.  Security: Serbia is a safe country as long as travelers follow the general safety precautions as they do when traveling to other countries. There are no protests or wars that could threaten the safety of tourists. Serbia has very warm-hearted people and likes foreign tourists. We look forward to many visits from Koreans.  ▷ How well is the Korean wave known in Serbia? - The middle-aged people who grew up in Serbia do not know much about Korea yet because they do not have much information about Korea. However, younger generations such as teenagers and people in their 20s know a lot about Korea through K-pop, K-drama, K-movie, K-food, and K-beauty. Recently, a Korean food store opened in Belgrade, and all items were sold out in two days. This means that Korean food is so popular, and that the image of Korea is getting better. Relations between the two countries have been good before, but I think this is a very, very positive trend to expand bilateral exchanges. Groups like BTS and Blackpink are popular. There are also many Serbian students selling K-pop products online in Serbia. Taekwondo is also very popular. Serbia also won many medals in taekwondo at international competitions. Two girls won medals at the Tokyo Olympics, by beating Korean athletes, the home country of Taekwondo. Since Taekwondo is also popular in Serbia, I would like to strengthen relations through Taekwondo exchanges between the two countries in the future.  ▷ There are many famous sports players in Serbia. - Serbia has many world-class players in football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and water polo. As you saw when you entered the embassy, there is a poster of very famous tennis player named Novak Djokovic who won 23 major tennis tournaments. Another player is basketball star Nikola Jokic, who plays for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. These two are the most popular sportsmen in Serbia these days. Serbians has a good physique and a very long tradition in various sports. I also enjoy various sports such as tennis. As a founder of Ambassadors’ Tennis Association in Seoul, I have a wish to initiate various exchanges with the Korea Tennis Association. ▷ What is your favorite Korean drama or movie? - I watch a lot of Korean dramas with my wife. I'm trying to learn Korean through Korean dramas, and I'm learning a lot of Korean culture, especially the social aspect through dramas. I recently watched 'Kingdom' and 'Glory'. My personal favorite drama is '39'. It was a story about three friends who were a little younger than me, so I could relate to them and their generational chalenges. This drama was interesting to see many aspects of Korean society, such as relationships between friends, lovers, and relationships at work from an early age.  ▷ Serbia is growing into a digital powerhouse. Serbia is growing very rapidly in fields such as biotechnology, gaming industry, artificial intelligence, and ICT. In the past, agriculture was a major part of our economy, but now I believe it is the ICT. So, our ICT companies established in Serbia, are exporting a lot. Everything related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the knowledge-based economy is becoming the priority and focus for our government. Korea is one of the world's leading countries in the digital field. So, we want to learn from Korea and expand exchanges in this field.  ▷ What is the secret of Serbia's growth in the ICT sector? - These days, when ICT-related manpower is scarce, Serbia is thriving because there are many excellent talents who have received related education. They received a very good education in engineering and natural sciences. In the case of the ICT sector, it was able to grow rapidly because it did not require a large factory and manual workforce. Recently, several Serbian game companies came to Korea and met with the Korea Gaming Association and game companies. We want to learn from Korea, a powerhouse in games and e-sports, how startups in the gaming industry can grow bigger and how to create a better environment. So I think we can have a lot of exchanges in this ICT gaming field, and we have a very strong cooperative relationship in the fields of e-government and smart city. Currently, Serbia's second largest city, Novi Sad, is also carrying out a project to build smart city capabilities with the Korea Development Institute and Samsung SDS.  ▷ To activate exchanges between younger generations. - As mentioned earlier, I think travel between the two countries is important. Another is educational exchange. Every year, Korea selects about 5 Serbian students as global career scholarship students. In addition to this, the number of students studying graduate master's and doctoral programs here is increasing every year. About 500 to 600 people apply for the Global Career Scholarship, which selects 5 students every year. There is a Serbian language institute at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and about 50 to 60 students study Serbian every year. Recently, three Serbian travel influencers visited Korea and promoted Korea very well. They mostly stayed in Seoul, but they also visited other cities outside of Seoul, and this was well received in Serbia. Serbia is also planning to make more efforts so that Korean influencers, film producers, and drama producers can find it. I think that filming Korean dramas in Serbia will be very popular with tourists. ▷ What Korean tourist attractions do you want to recommend to Serbians? - Gangwon-do is my personal favorite and always recommended place to guests who came to Korea from Serbia. Especially, Sokcho, Gangneung, Yangyang, and Seoraksan. It is not too far from Seoul, but you can enjoy beautiful mountains and forests, skiing, hiking, and walking on the beach. I have visited many parts of Korea, but I have already been to the East Coast region and Gangwon-do about 10 times, and I am thinking of going there more. Recently, I went to Jeju Island for the first time, and it is one of the places I want to recommend because everything is different, including unique culture and vegetation. I definitely recommend volcanic island, beautiful beach, sea, and black pork belly. I also like beautiful nature and historical sites in northern Seoul, such as Paju and Panmunjom in Gyeonggi Province, and beautiful river lakes.  ▷ Lastly, is there anything you want to say to Koreans? As I emphasized at the beginning of the interview, Serbia is a friendly country to Korea. The Serbian people are friendly to Koreans and have such a positive image of Korea that more Koreans are welcome to visit. Recently, not only tourists, but also students, professionals, and Korean companies interested in Serbia are on the rise. 건강과 웰빙, 세계 25위, 국내 1위 순천향대학교(총장 김승우)는 영국의 글로벌 대학평가기관인 ‘Times Higher Education(THE)’가 발표한 ‘2023 THE 세계대학 영향력 평가(THE Impact Rankings 2023)’에서 3년 연속 세계 200위권에 올랐다고 2일 밝혔다. 지난 2019년부터 시행된 이번 평가는 UN의 지속가능발전목표(SDGs, Sustainable Development Goals)에 대한 대학의 책무 이행 정도를 평가하는 글로벌 순위이다. 평가항목은 △빈곤 퇴치 △기아 종식 △건강·웰빙 △양질의 교육 △성평등 △깨끗한 물과 위생 △모두를 위한 깨끗한 에너지 △양질의 일자리와 경제성장 △산업·혁신·회기반시설 △불평등 감소 △지속 가능한 도시와 공동체 △지속 가능한 생산·소비 등 지난 2015년 UN에서 합의한 17개의 SDGs로 진행된다. 순천향대는 이번 평가에 참여한 7개 분야 중 건강과 웰빙(SDG 3) 분야에서 국내 1위, 세계 25위를 기록했다. 지속 가능한 도시와 공동체(SDG11) 국내 4위, 세계 100위권이다. 순천향대 관계자는 “종합순위에서는 지난해보다 200여 개 대학이 증가한 세계 1700여 개 대학 중 3년 연속 세계 200위권 대학에 자리매김하며 차별화된 브랜드 가치를 확고히 했다”고 설명했다. 김승우 총장은 “순천향대는 지속가능성을 확보한 대학의 이미지를 기반으로 새로운 혁신과 변화를 추구하고 있다”며 “국제사회의 지속가능발전목표에 대한 고등교육기관의 사회적 책무를 다하기 위해 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

우크라이나가 조만간 개시할 봄 대반격 작전을 앞두고 드론 조종사 1만 명을 양성했다고 발표했다. 우크라이나 내무부는 앞서 4만명 규모의 8개 강습여단을 새로 결성했다고 밝힌 바 있다. 이에 따라 이번 반격 작전은 지상군 외에 드론도 중대한 역할을 할 것으로 보여진다. 6일(현지시간) 미국 매체 인사이더 등에 따르면, 미하일로 페도로프 우크라이나 부총리 겸 디지털혁신부 장관은 지난 4일 우크라이나의 드론군 프로젝트를 통해 우크라이나 군인 1만 명이 드론 조종사 훈련을 받았다고 밝혔다. 우크라이나 정부의 재건 단체 유나이티드24(United24)는 우크라이나 드론군 프로젝트를 통해 지금까지 세계 110개국으로부터 3억2800만 달러(약 4352억원) 이상의 기부금을 모았다. 지난해 5월5일 설립된 이 단체는 기부금 중 일부를 이번 조종사 양성에 사용했다고 페도로프 부총리는 부연했다. 페도로프 부총리는 또 드론군 프로젝트의 일부로 공격용 드론을 직접 생산하기 위한 시설 60곳이 만들어진다는 계획도 밝혔다.그는 이날 자신의 텔레그램을 통해 이미 소형 자폭 드론 100대가 일선에 투입됐다고 밝혔다. 그러면서 자폭 드론 1기가 헤르손 지역의 러시아 군용 감시 카메라를 파괴하는 영상을 공유했다. 이 드론은 피닉스 03 헤비 UCAV FPV라는 기종으로 알려졌다. 드론은 우크라이나 뿐 아니라 러시아 측이 서로에 대한 정찰과 공격 등의 목적으로 이번 우크라이나 전쟁에서 핵심적인 역할을 해왔다. 양측은 또 상대의 영역에 더 깊이 파고 들어 유류저장고 등 목표물을 파괴하고자 장거리 드론도 활용하고 있다.지난 3일 러시아 수도 모스크바의 크렘린궁 상공에서는 드론이 폭발하는 사건이 발생했다. 러시아 측은 이를 두고 크레림궁에 집무실을 두고 있는 블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령을 노린 암살 시도라고 주장했다. 그러나 우크라이나 측은 러시아가 민간 시설 공격을 정당화하려는 자작극이라고 반박했다.우크라이나 측은 드론이 러시아가 점령한 우크라이나 영토를 되찾기 위한 봄 대반격에서 매우 중대한 역할을 하게 될 것이라고 언급한 바 있다. 안톤 게라셴코 우크라이나 내무장관 고문은 앞서 미 뉴스위크와의 인터뷰에서 “우리가 수만, 수십만 기의 정찰 및 공격용 드론을 보유한다면 우리는 더 빠르고 더 적은 손실로 승리하게 될 것”이라고 말했다. 그는 “우리는 공격용 드론이 필요하다. 이미 종종 말했듯 이번 전쟁은 드론전이며, 드론은 이곳에서 가장 강력한 무기”라고 덧붙였다.

샤픽 하샤디 주한 모로코왕국 대사 인터뷰(하)  ▷ 60년이 넘게 한국과 모로코가 친밀한 관계를 유지하고 있는 배경은 무엇인가. - 두 나라는 1962년 수교 이전부터 긴밀한 유대관계를 형성했다. 단순히 기간의 문제가 아니라 양국의 깊은 우의와 존경, 역사적 유사성 등의 결과라고 생각한다. 모로코와 한국은 국가적, 지역적, 국제적인 관심사에 대해 서로 이해하고 함께했다. 이로 인해 1962년 모로코는 아프리카 국가 중 최초로 한국 외교관계를 맺은 국가가 됐다. 이후 60년 동안 양국의 외교 관계는 꾸준히 발전해 왔다. 특히 모로코와 한국의 관계는 2022년 수교 60주년을 기념해 지난 10년 동안 지속적으로 성장하고 있다. 고위급 방문 횟수, 경제적 협력, 기술 협력, 인적 교류 등에서 유례없는 성과를 거뒀다. 지난해 7월 수교 60주년 기념 행사와 경제행사인 ‘모로코 로드쇼’ 개최, 모로코 나우(Morocco Now) 브랜드 런칭 등과 같이 정치, 경제, 문화 등에서 양국 관계는 큰 진전을 이뤄냈다. 이어 지난해 12월 서울에서 열린 양국 외교부 간 정치 협의를 개최해 양국의 미래 협력을 강화를 논의했다.  모로코와 한국은 1962년 수교를 맺었지만 양국의 인연은 더욱 거슬러 올라간다. 모로코 군인들이 유엔 프랑스 대대의 일원으로 한국전쟁에 참전했다. 두 나라는 이미 수교 10년 전에 혈육과 같은 친밀한 관계를 형성했다.  ▷ 앞으로 양국의 주요 협력 분야는. - 양국의 주요 협력 분야는 자동차 산업, 청정 에너지, 무역, 관광 및 영화 산업이다. 양국의 우수성을 바탕으로 현재와 미래의 협력 분야다.  첫째, 잠재적인 한국 투자자들에게 가장 매력적인 자동차 부문이다. 지난 10년 동안 모로코 자동차 산업은 지속적인 성장 수준으로 상승했고, 큰 기술적 진보를 이뤘다. 이로 인해 모로코는 아프리카의 첫 번째 자동차 생산국이자 유럽 연합에 대한 두 번째 자동차 수출국이 됐다. 연간 자동차 생산 능력은 70만대에 이르며 250개 이상의 자동차 회사가 국내에 설립됐다.  지리적 위치와 10억 이상의 소비자는 여러 국가 및 지역과 체결된 자유 무역 협정과 결합돼 많은 기회를 제공할 수 있다. 아프리카의 자동차 산업, 특히 하이브리드, 전기 및 수소차와 같은 높은 기술 가치가 있는 분야에서 한국의 협력을 이어갔으면 한다.  둘째, 최근 눈부신 성장을 보이고 있는 것은 항공산업이다. 배선, 기계, 판금 작업, 복합재 및 기계 조립 분야의 다양한 부문의 개발로 인해 모로코는 항공 분야 생산 기지로 선호하는 국가가 됐다.  모로코에는 140개 이상의 항공 관련 회사가 있다. 가격 경쟁력과 기술을 갖춘 공장과 노동력, 공장 및 공급업체와의 근접성, 현지 투자 자본 등을 기반으로 하고 있다. 최근 캐나다 항공기 제조사 봄바이더(Bombardier)를 비롯해, 이튼(Eaton), 헥셀(Hexcel), 스텔리아(Stelia), 알코아(Alcoa) 등과 같은 글로벌 기업들이 들어오고 있다.  모로코의 기초 연구 수준과 한국의 디지털 항공 분야 발전을 감안할 때 항공 분야의 협력은 투자자들에게 전망이 큰 분야라고 말할 수 있다.  셋째, 모로코는 기후 선도 국가로 전력의 5분의2를 재생 에너지로 공급하고 있다. 일부 화석 연료 보조금이 단계적으로 폐지되고 산업을 탈탄소화하기 위한 조치가 전 세계적으로 주목을 받았다.  모로코는 태양열, 풍력 및 수력 발전을 생산할 수 있는 엄청난 자연 잠재력을 가지고 있으며 지속 가능한 에너지 및 순배출 제로 경제로의 전 세계적 전환의 중요한 원동력이 될 수 있는 녹색 수소를 생산하기 위한 중요한 단계를 밟고 있다. 한국의 녹색 이니셔티브는 적극적인 투자와 재생 에너지 부문의 눈부신 성장으로 순조롭게 진행되고 있다. 모로코는 신재생 에너지와 청정 에너지에 관심이 있는 한국에게 훌륭하고 수익성있는 투자처다.  넷째, 코로나 팬더믹으로 인해 많은 국가들이 보건 부문과 보건 주권을 전략적 우선 순위로 설정했다. 모로코도 예외는 아니다. 모로코 제약 산업은 아프리카 대륙에서 두 번째로 큰 규모다. 정치적 안정, 자유로운 경제, 교육받은 노동력, 유럽과 미국의 품질 기준에 따라 생산하는 인증 기업의 오랜 경험을 가지고 있는 모로코는 제약 산업에 관심이 있는 한국 투자자들에게 좋은 기회다.  ▷ 모로코는 올해 10월 세계은행그룹과 국제통화기금(IMF) 연차총회를 개최하는데. - 연차총회가 오는 10월 9일부터 15일까지 모로코 중부 마라케시에서 열린다. 연차 총회는 189개 회원국의 주요 인사, 재무 장관 및 중앙 은행 총재는 물론 민간 부문, NGO, 학계, 시민 사회 및 미디어 대표가 함께 모여 경제전망, 글로벌 금융안정, 빈곤퇴치, 포용적 경제성장 및 일자리 창출, 기후변화 등 글로벌 관심사 문제를 논의한다.  1973년 케냐 나이로비에서 처음 개최된 후 아프리카에서 연차총회가 다시 열리는 중요한 총회다.  ▷ 자금세탁방지 금융대책기구(FATF)가 모로코를 관찰대상국가에서 제외했는데. - FATF는 지난 2월 파리에서 열린 총회에서 자금 세탁 및 테러자금 조달에 관여하는 ‘그레이리스트’로 알려진 관찰대상국가에서 모로코를 제외하기로 했다. 이 결정은 국왕의 지시에 따라 다양한 모로코 국가 당국 및 관련 기관이 시행한 일련의 입법, 조직, 인식 및 통제 조치에 초점을 맞춘 모로코의 노력과 적극적인 조치를 더한 것이다. 해당 목록에서 모로코를 제외하면 국가 신용등급과 국내 은행 신용등급에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것이다. 이는 국제 금융 기관과의 협상에서 모로코의 이미지와 입지를 강화할 뿐만 아니라 국가 경제에 대한 외국인 투자자의 신뢰를 강화할 것이다.   Interview with H.E. Dr. Chafik RACHADI, Ambassador of His Majesty the King of Morocco to the Republic of Korea   ▷ What is the background of the close relationship between the two countries for more than 60 years? - It should be noted that, the solid bond between the two countries, since and before the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962, is not just a matter of longevity, but also the result of content, deep friendship, respect and historical similarities, which configured both Morocco and Korea to understand each other and to comprehend, on a same level, many issues of national, regional and international interest. Thus, in 1962, Morocco was the first African country to host Korean diplomatic representation. In the ensuing sixty years, diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Korea have witnessed a steady development.  The good news is that, on top of their excellent state, the Moroccan-Korean bilateral relations, on grounds of the celebration in 2022 of the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations, have gained tremendous momentum throughout the last decade with an ever-growing number of high-level visits, economic perspectives, technical cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and the list goes on through an unprecedented number of cooperation fields.  In this regard, I should mention the organization during last year a panoply of economic, political and cultural activities such as the holding in July 2022 of an outstanding economic event (Morocco roadshow), celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations, and launching the new Brand Morocco Now in the Republic of Korea, as well as the holding, last December in Seoul, of bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries, strengthening the dynamics of bilateral cooperation and opening up new prospects for its consolidation in the future.  Although diplomatic relations were established in 1962, the connection between our two countries goes even further back, when several Moroccan soldiers participated in the Korean War as part of the United Nations French Battalion, defending the territorial integrity of this friendly country, which made the people of our two nations blood brothers, a decade before the establishment of diplomatic relations.  ▷ What are the major areas of cooperation and their future perspectives? - Concerning the second part of your question, the main sectors of cooperation are automotive industry, clean energies, trade, tourism and film industry. These are sectors of current, present and future cooperation since they represent areas of excellence and priorities for both countries. In this context, allow me to briefly present the various assets of Morocco in some of its areas of excellence representing an opportunity for cooperation with Korea. First, automotive sector, which is the most attractive to potential Korean investors. Over the last decade, the Moroccan automotive industry has risen to sustained levels of growth and joined the closed circle of automotive exporters. This expedited timeline illustrates the technological progress Morocco has accomplished. In this success story, the automotive sector can boast that it’s the 1st exporting sector of Morocco, knowing that Morocco is the 1st car producer in Africa and the 2nd car exporting country to European Union. In addition, the Kingdom’s car production capacity reaches 700.000 unit with more than 250 automotive companies established in the country. All these indicators combine with the strategic geographical position and the Free Trade Agreements signed with countries and regions that include more than one billion consumers, making Morocco an unsurpassed opportunity for Korean investors. Those looking for developing Korea’s presence in the automotive industry in Africa, especially areas with high technological value, such as hybrid, electric and hydrogen vehicles would do well to look into Morocco.  Second sector is aeronautical industry that has recently shown outstanding dynamism and remarkable growth. The development of varied sectors, especially in wiring, mechanics, sheet metal work, composites and mechanical assembly, has made Morocco a preferred destination for subcontracting in aeronautics. Today, the Moroccan aeronautic industry is made up of more than 140 companies, and its major success is based on four conditions: competitively priced qualified labor, availability of qualified subcontractors, proximity to factories and suppliers, and availability of local investment capital. The recent establishment of other global players, such as Bombardier, Eaton, Hexcel, Stelia and Alcoa, confirms Morocco's ability to attract industry leaders.  Given the quality of basic research in Morocco and the decision to prioritize the development of the digital aeronautical sector in Korea, we can say that cooperation in the field of aeronautics offers major prospects for investors.  Third, making a name for itself as a climate leader, Morocco sources almost two-fifths of its electricity capacity from renewable energy. It lays claim to some of the world's largest clean energy projects as some fossil fuel subsidies have been phased out and its actions to decarbonize industries have received worldwide praise.  Morocco has a huge natural potential to produce solar, wind and hydropower, and is taking significant steps to produce green hydrogen, which could be a critical enabler of the global transition to sustainable energy and net zero emissions economies.  Considering these factors, Morocco is surely a great and profitable investment destination for Korean investors interested in renewable and clean energies. Korea’s own green initiatives are on the right track with active investment and impressive growth in the renewable energy sector, and those looking forward to expansion will find Morocco a green ally.  Fourth, as you know, the Covid-19 pandemic has rearranged priorities in the public policies of every country, with many nations setting the health sector and health sovereignty as strategic priorities. Morocco is no exception in this matter.  Today, Moroccan pharmaceutical industry ranks second in the African continent and constitutes the second largest chemical industry in Morocco after phosphate (Morocco is the world’s largest exporter of this natural resource).  Enjoying political stability, a liberal economy, and an educated workforce, as well as having a long experience with certified companies producing according to European and American quality standards, Morocco is a great opportunity for Korean investors interested in the pharmaceutical industry.     ▷ Morocco is hosting this year the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the InternatioalMonetary Fund from 9th till 15th October in Marrakesh. Can you tell us about this event ? - These Annual Meetings brings together leading figures, Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from 189 member countries of these institutions, as well as representatives of the private sector, NGOs, academia, civil society and media, to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, inclusive economic growth and job creation, climate change, and others.   This choice is highly symbolic as it marks the return of these Annual Meetings to Africa after having been held for the first time in Nairobi (Kenya) in 1973. Given the high level of stakeholder participation, the 2023 Annual Meetings offer the opportunity for the Kingdom to strengthen its attractiveness and promote its image: a stable and tolerant, open and dynamic country, rich in its intangible heritage, secular history, culture, gastronomy, and also marked by the progress made over the last 20 years at the democratic, social and economic levels.  ▷ We have read that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has decided to remove Morocco from the 'grey list'. Can you tell us a little bit about this issue ? - The FATF's decision to remove Morocco from the enhanced monitoring process, known as “grey list”, taken during its General Assembly, held in Paris last February, comes after assessing the compliance of the Moroccan national system with international standards relating to the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.  This decision crowns the efforts and proactive actions of Morocco, pursuant to His Majesty the King’s directives, which have focused on a series of legislative, organizational, awareness and control measures, implemented by the various Moroccan national authorities and institutions concerned, under the coordination of the National Financial Intelligence Authority.  Morocco’s removal from the said list will have a positive impact on sovereign ratings and local banks’ ratings. <편집자 주> 지구촌 별별 이야기를 담는 나우뉴스는 외국인 오피니언 리더들의 눈과 입을 통해 세계의 다양하고 유익한 정보를 전하는 ‘헬로 월드’ 연재를 시작합니다. 인터뷰는 유엔공식벤더로 인정받은 통역번역 전문법인 (주)제이엠 커넥티드 임지민 대표와 함께 진행합니다. 이화여대 통번역대학원에서 공부한 임 대표는 국가기관과 글로벌 기업, 대학, 산업 분야에서 열리는 다양한 국제행사에서 통·번역 서비스를 제공하고 있습니다.  아프리카 국가 최초로 2022년 카타르 월드컵에서 4강 돌풍을 일으킨 모로코가 유엔군의 일원으로 6·25 한국전쟁에 참전한 사실이 확인되면서 큰 관심을 끌고 있다.  모로코가 프랑스 보호령이던 당시 국왕인 모하메드 5세는 모로코 국민들에게 프랑스와 동맹국의 자유 수호를 위해 프랑스군에 입대할 것을 권고했고, 이 가운데 일부가 유엔군 일원으로 1950년 한국전쟁에 참전했다.  샤픽 하샤디 주한 모로코왕국 대사는 27일 “모로코는 1962년 아프리카 국가 중 가장 먼저 한국과 수교를 체결한 국가로 60년 넘게 정치, 경제, 문화 등 많은 분야에서 활발한 교류를 이어가고 있다”면서 “모로코 군인 일부가 유엔군 일원으로 한국전쟁에 참여하는 등 두 나라는 이미 수교 이전부터 각별한 관계를 형성했다”고 말했다.  하샤디 대사는 “모로코는 한국과 멀리 떨어진 국가이지만 역사와 문화, 전통, 신념 등에서 많은 공통점을 가진 국가”라며 “한국의 문화가 아랍 국가에 한류열풍을 불러 일으키고 있고, 모로코의 풍부한 관광자원이 많은 한국 관광객들의 관심을 받고 있다”고 덧붙였다.  하샤디 대사는 앞으로 자동차 산업, 항공분야, 신재생에너지, 보건 분야에서 더 많은 많은 교류를 기대하고 있다.  모로코는 아프리카 북서단에 있는 입헌군주제 국가로 정식명칭은 모로코왕국(Kingdom of Morocco)이다. 수도는 라바트이며, 1962년 한국과 수교를 체결했다. 1993년 비자면제협정을 체결하면서 양국의 관공 교류로 활발하게 이뤄지고 있다. 한국 사람들에게는 영화 ‘카사블랑카’를 떠올리고, 최근 재개봉한 영화 ‘모가디슈’, 드라마 ‘배가본드’ 촬영지로도 친숙하다. 특히 2022년 카타르 월드컵에서는 아프리카 국가로는 최초로 4강에 진출하는 쾌거를 이뤄내며 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 한국이 아시아 최초로 2002년 한일 월드컵에서 4강에 오른 뒤 20년 만에 아프리카 축구에서 새로운 이정표를 세운 셈이다. 샤픽 하샤디 주한 모로코왕국 대사 인터뷰를 문화·관광과 정치·경제 분야로 나눠 두차례에 걸쳐 연재한다. 다음은 하샤디 대사와의 일문일답.  ▷ 아프리카 국가 최초로 월드컵 4강 신화를 달성한 비결은. - 아프리카 국가 월드컵 준결승 신화는 모로코의 기적이자 꿈이었고, 엄청난 순간이었다. 아랍 세계의 잠재력을 전세계에 보여준 역사였다. 특별한 비법은 없다. 모든 모로코, 아랍 및 아프리카 국가의 지원과 함께 결단력, 인내, 의지, 팀워크의 결과였다.  ‘아틀라스 라이온즈’(모로코 국가대표팀 별칭)는 눈부신 활약으로 모든 국민들에게 감동과 애국심을 선사했다. 1999년 모하메드 6세 국왕 즉위 이후 국가 근대화 과정이 정치에서 사회, 스포츠에 이르기까지 모든 영역에서 추진됐다.  축구도 이러한 과정에서 벗어나지 않았다. 국가 차원에서 젊은 모로코인들이 스포츠 및 학업에서 능력을 발휘할 수 있도록 아카데미와 시설의 개발을 장려했다.  ▷ 월드컵을 계기로 모로코에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있는데.  - 실제 한국에서 모로코에 대한 관심이 점차 높아지고 있다는 점은 눈에 띈다. 모로코는 수세기에 걸쳐 내려오는 문화적 다양성, 예술, 영화, 음악 등을 축적하고 있고, 여러 유형의 유네스코 세계 유산이 국제적인 관심을 끌고 있다. 많은 사람들이 모로코의 자연, 역사, 예술, 모로코식 환대에 매료돼 찾고 있다. 모로코는 항상 다양한 문명, 신념 및 문화의 교차로였으며, 아랍, 지중해 및 아프리카 기원의 용광로였다. 페니키아인, 카르타고인, 로마인, 반달족이 이 땅을 거치면서 다양한 문명과 문화가 스며들었다. 이 같은 문화적 다양성은 과거, 잠재 의식 및 문화에 잘 묻혀 있고, 이는 일상 언어, 사실 및 몸짓, 심지어 종교적 신념에서도 찾을 수 있다.  ▷ 모로코에 한국 문화는 얼마나 잘 알려져 있나. - 한류는 세계 여러 지역에서 인기를 얻고 있다. 모로코에서도 최근 몇 년 동안 한국 드라마, 음악, 패션이 젊은 세대 사이에서 많은 인기를 얻고 있다. 모로코를 포함한 아랍 국가 전역의 많은 대학에서는 한국어를 배울 수 있다.  K-드라마는 모로코에서 점점 인기를 얻고 있으며 많은 모로코인들이 시청한다. K-드라마의 인기는 모로코 사람들이 한국어를 배우고 드라마에 나오는 언어와 문화를 더 잘 이해할 수 있도록 했고, 모로코에 한국어 학교를 개설하는 계기가 됐다.  방탄소년단(BTS), 블랙핑크(Blackpink), 엑소(EXO) 등 K팝 그룹의 인기가 높아지면서 한국 음악도 모로코에서 많은 팬을 확보했다. 모로코 K팝 팬들은 팬클럽을 결성하고 좋아하는 그룹을 축하하기 위해 이벤트와 모임을 개최한다.  한국 패션도 모로코에서 인기를 끌었다. 한류는 한국의 엔터테인먼트와 문화를 수용하는 젊은 세대들 사이에서 모로코 문화에 상당한 영향을 미치고 있다.  또한 모로코인들은 한국인과 그들의 문화에 대해 긍정적인 시각을 가지고 있다. 모로코에서 한국인이라고 하면 가장 먼저 떠오르는 것은 시민들의 근면함이다.  한국인들의 다른 사람에 대한 존중, 화합, 근면, 자기 수양을 우선시하는 문화적 가치와 전통은 어릴 때부터 교육, 가족 및 사회 제도를 교육을 받는다.  위계와 권위에 대한 존중과 직업 윤리, 직업에 대한 헌신으로 유명하다. 한국인들은 종종 오랜 시간 일하고 그 일을 매우 진지하게 받아들인다. 일에 대한 이러한 헌신은 경쟁이 치열하고 학업 성취도를 강조하는 교육 시스템에도 반영된다.  전반적으로 한국인의 행동은 강한 의무감과 책임감, 타인에 대한 존중, 근면과 자기 수양에 대한 헌신이 특징이다.  ▷ 한국인에게 추천하고 싶은 모로코 여행지는. - 우리는 모든 관광 상품에 ‘환경적 요소와 사회적 요소’를 중시한다고 생각한다. 관광객들이 관광을 통해 진정한 성찰을 할 수 있게 한다. 아틀라스 산맥에서 대서양 해변, 사막의 고요함에서 활기찬 도시 등 자연과 문화, 건축, 역사, 전통 등 많은 관광 자원을 가진 나라 중 하나다. 기후, 토양, 문화 다양성과 관련된 광범위한 자산을 보유하고 있다. 2023년 워싱턴 포스트에 따르면 모로코는 세계 최고의 여행지 중 하나로 선정됐다. 그런 점에서 한국 관광객들에게 유럽의 다른 도시들과는 다른 특별한 경험을 할 수 있는 마라케시, 와르자자트, 라윤, 다클라 등 남부 도시들을 추천하고 싶다. 황토색 모래 언덕과 바위 첨탑이 이루는 광대한 풍경은 등산객과 사진작가의 마음을 사로잡을 것입니다.  ▷ 한국 생활에 대해 이야기한다면 한국에 대한 인상은. - 한국은 대사로 근무한 국가 이상이다. 내 아이들이 자란 나라다. 우리가 처음 왔을 때 막내는 13살이었는데 지금은 19살이다. 그는 한국을 제2의 나라로 생각한다. 실제로 한국은 문화가 풍부하고 역사에 상당한 중요성을 부여하는 매혹적인 나라다. 내가 한국 문화에 대해 가장 좋아하는 점은 다른 종교와 문화가 혼합되어 상대적으로 동질적이라는 것이다. 다른 사람을 받아들이고 그들의 삶의 방식을 존중하는 것은 한국 문화에서 본질적으로 얻어지는 성숙이다. 좋아하는 한식을 묻는다면 망설임 없이 비빔밥이다. 비빔밤을 가르쳐준 딸과 소소한 이야기(a tête à tête)를 나누며 함께 즐겨 먹는다. 하지만 한국에서 보낸 모든 순간을 사랑하는 법을 배웠다. 주말에 나는 도시를 내려다보기 위해 남산타워에 올라간다. 결론적으로 한국은 독특한 분위기를 가지고 있고 나를 놀라게 하는 것을 멈추지 않는 나라라고 말할 수 있다. ▷ 한국과 모로코의 유사점은 무엇인가. - 비록 모로코는 한국과 꽤 멀리 떨어져 있지만 이곳에서 보낸 지난 몇 년은 우리가 여러 면에서 얼마나 비슷한지를 깨닫게 해주었다. 무엇보다 한국에서 높게 평가되는 가족관계와 의존성은 모로코의 가치관과 유사하다. 양국 모두 가족을 매우 중요하게 생각하고 연장자를 존경한다. 또한 근면과 근면, 효도, 겸손을 중요한 가치로 삼는다. 유교 철학은 개인의 행복보다 가족의 화합을 우선시함으로써 한국의 전통적인 가족 구조를 형성했다. 많은 한국인들이 자기표현보다 가족의 중요성을 강조하는데 모로코도 마찬가지다. 우리는 뿌리 깊은 전통, 가치 및 신념을 가진 다양한 부분으로 구성된 다문화 사회다. 공통적으로 영토를 회복한 역사를 가지고 있다. 나는 독립을 위해 조선 각지에서 자발적으로 일어난 평화적인 운동인 1919년 3.1절을 예로 들고 싶다. 이는 1975년 모로코 녹색 행진을 떠올리게 한다. 이 운동은 우리 남부 지방의 평화로운 해방으로 이어졌다. 그것은 모로코 역사상 가장 중요한 사건의 하나로 모로코 왕국의 영토 보전을 완성하는 이정표가됐다. 두 사례는 양국 모두 독립을 위해 같은 길을 걸었다는 것을 보여준다.Interview with H.E. Dr. Chafik RACHADI, Ambassador of His Majesty the King of Morocco to the Republic of Korea    ▷ Congratulations on becoming the first African country to achieve the World Cup semi-final myth.  What is the secret to reaching the semifinals? - With pride, I here recall that my country’s football team is the first Arab and African nation ever to reach the semifinals of the FIFA competitions organized for the first time in an Arab country (Qatar). Joy was overwhelming all Moroccans all over the world, all Arab and African nations throughout the globe. This was a magical wish of every Arab and African country. There was no secret behind. It was the result of determination, perseverance, will and teamwork, along with the support of all Moroccans, Arab and African nations. It was a Moroccan miracle and dream, a mountainous moment, a potential history for a country, for a continent and for the Arab world. The Atlas Lions have portrayed unbelievable emotions and values among all nations around the globe through their brilliant performance, having with them their mothers who have instilled them the values of patriotism and sacrifice. To be noted that this achievement was a further demonstration of the support of His Majesty the King for sport and football in Morocco. Since the King´s accession to the throne in 1999, the process of national modernization undertaken by His Majesty has encompassed all areas, from the political to the social, as well as the sporting. Football has not been left out of this process of evolution, and the national authorities have encouraged the development of academies and facilities that have fostered the sporting and academic development of young Moroccans.▷ Morocco's culture seems to be less well known in Korea. Can you tell us what kind of county it is? - In fact, it is noticeable that Morocco is becoming increasingly popular within Korean society, especially in recent years. This can be explained by the fact that Moroccan culture fascinates the world by its diversity, art, cinema, music, and history that goes back centuries. With several dynasties that have succeeded one another over the years (the Idrisside dynasty, Almoravid, Almohad, Merinid, Saadian and the Alaouite) Morocco has gained international consideration as a multicultural country, with several types of heritage recognized as World Heritage by UNESCO. Morocco is one of the go-to destinations for discovery lovers, the most fascinated by nature, history, the art of living and Moroccan hospitality. The experience gained during their journeys in Morocco leave them pleasantly satisfied with their stay. Morocco has always been the crossroads of different civilizations, beliefs, and cultures, a melting pot of Amazigh, Arab, Mediterranean and African origins, has seen the Phoenicians, the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Vandals pass through its lands. As a result, it has been impregnated with different civilizations and cultures. These shares between societies, languages, traditions, and customs allow Morocco to have a vibrant culture that includes several other specificities. Thus cultural diversity is not new for Moroccans, but its notion is well buried in its past, subconscious, and culture. This notion can be detected in its daily language, facts and gestures, and even its religious beliefs, without forgetting its material and immaterial heritage.▷ How well is Korean culture known in Morocco? What do Moroccan people think of Korea What Korean Wave content would the Moroccans like? - Rich by its millenary history, Morocco has always known how to take advantage of the contributions of the societies it has lived alongside and absorb them.Globalization, migration, and the evolution of the contemporary world project the Moroccan society towards new horizons where tradition and modernity meet.  Also, Korea's cultural diplomacy has brought the Hallyu wave to Arab countries. K-Drama, K-pop, and Korean food appear all over these countries. In addition, many universities all over Arab countries offer the Korean language for study, including my own country, the Kingdom of Morocco.  The Korean wave, also known as Hallyu, has been gaining popularity in many parts of the world, including Morocco. In recent years, Korean drama, music, and fashion have gained many followers in Morocco, especially among younger generations.  Korean dramas, also known as K-dramas, have become increasingly popular in Morocco, with many Moroccans tuning in to watch their favorite shows. The popularity of K-dramas has led to the opening of Korean language schools in Morocco, where Moroccans can learn Korean and better understand the language and culture portrayed in the dramas.  Korean music has also gained many followers in Morocco, with K-pop groups such as BTS, Blackpink, and EXO becoming increasingly popular. Moroccan fans of K-pop have formed their own fan clubs and hold events and gatherings to celebrate their favorite groups.  In addition to K-drama and K-pop, Korean fashion has also become popular in Morocco. Korean street style, in particular, has gained many followers among Moroccan youth who are drawn to the unique and trendy clothing styles. Overall, the Korean wave has been making a significant impact on Moroccan culture, especially among younger generations who are embracing Korean entertainment and culture.  Also, Moroccans have a positive view of Koreans and their culture. It is important to remember that all individuals, regardless of their ethnicity or nationality, are unique and should not be stereotyped or generalized. In Morocco when we talk about Koreans, the first thing that comes to our mind is the hard work and the good behavior of the citizens.  We believe that the behavior of the Korean people is shaped by their cultural values and traditions, which prioritize respect for others, harmony, hard work, and self-discipline. These values are instilled in Koreans from their early years through education, family, and social institutions.  Another aspect of the Korean behavior is their respect for hierarchy and authority. This is reflected in the way they speak to and interact with those who are older or of higher social status.  Koreans are known for their work ethic and dedication to their jobs. They often work long hours and take their work very seriously. This dedication to work is also reflected in their education system, which is highly competitive and emphasizes academic achievement.  Another aspect of the Korean behavior is their emphasis on cleanliness. Koreans take great pride in keeping their homes and public spaces. Overall, the behavior of Koreans is characterized by a strong sense of duty and responsibility, respect for others, and a dedication to hard work and self-discipline.  ▷ Which Moroccan destination do you want to recommend to the Korean people? - We believe it is necessary that “environmental and social element” be inscribed among the foundations of all tourist products. This allows us to undertake a real reflection on the products to introduce to the tourists. The search for a real match between supply and demand is essential.  From the Atlas Mountains to the Atlantic beaches, from the silence of the desert to the lively cities... nature, culture, architecture, history, tradition of hospitality... few countries in the world concentrate so many riches. Morocco is one of them.  The Kingdom has a wide range of tourist assets linked to the diversity of its climate, relief, soil and culture. In 2023, Morocco is ranked among the top travel destinations in the world according to the Washington Post.  In this regard, I would recommend to Korean tourists, the southern cities (Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Laayoune, Dakhla…) where they will enjoy special experiences much different from what they can find in other European cities. In this part of Morocco, the magic happens! The immensity of these landscapes of ochre dunes and rocky spires will fascinate the hiker as well as the photographer. ▷ If you were to talk about life in Korea, what is your impression of Korea ? What is your favorite Korean culture, food and tourist attraction? - The Republic of Korea is more than an accreditation country for me. It is the country where my children grew up. My youngest was 13 years old when we first came. Today, he's nearly 19. He considers Korea as his second country.  Indeed, Korea is a fascinating country, rich in culture and gives considerable importance to its history. What I like most about Korean culture is that it is relatively homogeneous, with a mixture of different religions and cultures. Acceptance of others and respect for their way of life is a maturity acquired essentially in Korean culture.  If you ask me about my favorite Korean dish, I will answer without hesitation that it is the “Bibimpap” because I learned to enjoy it every time I went out for “a tête à tête” with my daughter, who taught me to love it.  Although, I learned to love every little moment I spent in Korea. My perfect plan for the weekend was to go all the way up to “Namsan Tower” to have a bird's eye view of the city.  In conclusion, I could say that Korea is a country that has a unique vibe and never stops surprising me, that's why it holds an exceptional place in my heart.  ▷ What are the similarities between Korea and Morocco? - Even if Korea is quite far from Morocco, these last few years I spent here made me notice how similar we are in many ways. Foremost, the close family ties and dependencies valued so highly in Korea are similar to Moroccan values.  We both give great importance to family and respect elders. In addition, we admire diligent and hard work, filial piety, and humbleness. Confucian philosophy defined the traditional Korean family structure, by placing family harmony over individual happiness. Many Koreans emphasized the importance of family rather than self-expression, which is the same in Morocco.  We are multicultural societies composed of many different parts with deeply rooted traditions, values, and beliefs.  In the common history marked by the desire to recover our territories, I quote the example of the March 1st Movement in Korea, with its peaceful demonstrations that spontaneously broke out in 1919 throughout Korea to affirm to the whole world the hope and ardent desire of the Korean people for independence. This reminds us of the Moroccan Green March of 1975, which also led to the peaceful liberation of our southern provinces.  It was one of the most significant epics in the history of Morocco and a milestone in the process of completing the territorial integrity of the Kingdom. 부산시가 기업이 필요로 하는 이론과 실무를 겸비한 인재를 육성해 일자리 불일치를 해소하기 위해 ‘워털루형 코업(Co-Operative Education)’ 프로그램을 운영한다. 시는 워털루형 코업 프로그램에 참여할 지역 대학 3곳, 기업 40곳을 이달 공모해 선정한다고 3일 밝혔다. 선정된 3개 대학은 각자 지역특화, 신성장 산업 분야와 관계된 전공학과의 3학년 학생 20명을 선발하고 실무형 인재를 양성한다. 학생들은 3학년 1학기에 이론 수업을 받고 2학기와 겨울 계절학기에 대학 또는 사업 참여 기업에서 실습하며 실무 지식과 기술을 습득한다. 4학년 때도 전공 심화 이론과 실습을 병행하며, 겨울 계절학기에 기업에 조기 취업할 수 있도록 한다. 이 사업은 캐나다 워털루대가 시행 중인 기업 현장 기반 육성 프로그램을 지역 실정에 맞게 재설계한 것이다. 워털루대는 한 학년을 3학기제로 운영하는데 한 학기에는 전공과 관련된 기업에서 현장 실습하며 월급을 받는다. 참여 학생에게 3~4개월 동안 월 200만원 상당의 실습비를 지원한다. 대학에는 운영비 1000만원을 지원하고, 기업에도 학생 전담 멘토 수당 1인당 월 20만원과 과제 지원금 300만~500만원을 지급한다. 시는 이 사업을 통해 산업계가 요구하는 실무 능력을 갖춘 인재를 양성하고 이론 중심의 대학 교과과정을 혁신하는 효과를 거둘 것으로 기대한다. 시 관계자는 “한국고용정보원의 조사를 보면 취업자가 미취업자보다 직업 관련 교육·훈련을 받은 경험이 더 많아 기업들이 선호한다”며 “이 사업으로 전문성과 현장성을 모두 갖춘 인재를 원하는 기업의 요구에 대응할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
