사람의 생각을 글자로 바꿔 보여주는 ‘인공지능(AI) 헬멧’이 세계 최초로 개발됐다. 12일(현지시간) 기술 매체 테크 익스플로어 등에 따르면, 호주 시드니공대 연구팀은 이날 미국 뉴올리언스에서 개최 중인 세계 최고 AI 학회 ‘뉴립스 2023’에서 이같은 연구 성과를 발표했다. 이 기술은 ‘디웨이브’(Dewave)라고 불리는 AI 모델에 의해 수행된다. 이 모델은 많은 양의 EEG 자료를 학습함으로써 EEG 신호를 단어와 문장으로 변환할 수 있다. 연구팀은 피험자 29명을 대상으로 AI 헬멧에 접목한 AI 기술이 제대로 작동하는지를 검증하기도 했다. 이 중 한 참가자가 나오는 영상에는 그가 모니터 화면에 나온 영어 문장을 머리 속에 떠올리자 AI 모델이 이를 해독해 문장으로 바꿔 보여주는 모습이 담겨 있다.그가 본 문장은 “굿 애프터눈!”, “당신이 잘 지내길 바랍니다(I hope you‘re doing well)”, “카푸치노로 시작할게요, 에스프레소 샷 추가 해주세요(I’ll start with a cappuccino, please, with an extra shot of espresso)”다.그리고 이를 머리 속에 떠올리고 나서 AI 모델이 다시 변환해준 문장은 “애프터눈!”, “잘 지내?(You well?)”, “카푸치노, 에스프레소 샷 추가(Cappuccino, Xtra shot. Espresso)”로 좀 더 간략하다. 연구팀은 “우리 기술은 뇌졸중이나 신체마비 등으로 말할 수 없게 된 환자의 의사소통을 돕거나 의공학 팔다리나 로봇의 작동 등 사람과 기계 사이에 끊김없는 소통이 가능하도록 해준다”며 “현재 변환 정확도는 40% 수준에 머물러 있지만, 이를 90%대로 높이기 위해 계속 노력하고 있다”고 밝혔다.

경기 용인시는 여성가족부로부터 여성친화도시로 지정돼 향후 5년 동안 지위를 유지하게 됐다고 2일 밝혔다. 시는 지난 2013년 여성친화도시로 지정된 후 지원정책을 수립하고 실천해 여성의 사회적 지위 확보와 가족친화 환경 조성 등 여성이 살기 좋은 도시로 인정받았다. 여성친화도시는 여성의 사회 활동에 평등한 참여 기회를 보장하고, 돌봄 가치와 안전 증진 등이 담보된 도시를 인증하는 제도다. 여성가족부는 여성 공무원의 관리직 비율, 성인지 통계 구축, 거버넌스 운영, 여성역량강화 분야별 주요 사업 등 5개 영역 12개 지표를 평가해 여성친화도시 지정 여부를 결정한다. 심사에는 22개 지자체가 지원해 용인특례시를 비롯한 15개 지자체가 여성 친화도시로 지정됐다. 시는 지난 2014년부터 10년 동안 양성이 평등한 도시를 만들기 위해 ▲성평등 정책 추진 기반 구축 ▲여성의 경제‧사회 참여 확대 ▲지역사회 안전 증진 ▲가족친화 환경 조성 ▲여성의 지역사회 활동역량 강화 등 5대 목표를 세워 다양한 정책을 수립했다. 시는 경찰과 여성 폭력 상담소와 협약을 맺고 전국 최초로 스토킹‧데이트 폭력 피해자를 지원하는 ‘WITH YOU’ 사업을 펼쳤고, 지역 내 소상공인과 이‧통장을 대상으로 여성폭력 신고‧옹호자 양성 교육인 ‘우리동네 폭력 파수꾼’ 사업은 내년부터 전국으로 사업이 확대된다. 두 사업 모두 여성친화도시 우수사례로 선정됐다. 아울러 시는 지난 11년 동안 여성의 경제 활동 참여를 돕기 위해 경력보유 여성을 채용한 기업에 고용 장려금을 매월 40만원씩 지원했고, 여성 일자리 창출을 위해 골프 캐디 취업 지원과 공공사무원 양성 사업을 추진했다. 이 밖에도 여성을 대상으로 일어나는 범죄를 예방하기 위해 안심택배함 운영과 여성 1인가구 안심키트를 배포 중이다. 여성친화도시를 향한 노력은 지자체 내부에서도 긍정적인 변화를 가져왔다. 지난 5년 동안 시의 여성관리직 비율은 13%에서 29%로 크게 늘었고, 정책 결정을 위한 위원회 위촉위원 중 여성 비율은 31%에서 42%까지 증가했다 이상일 시장은 “여성친화도시로서 노력과 성과를 인정받은 용인특례시는 더 높은 목표를 향해 노력할 것”이라며 “모든 시민이 생활 속에서 불안을 느끼지 않고 양성이 평등한 기회를 보장받는 사회를 각 기관, 시민들과 함께 만들겠다”고 말했다.

K팝 가운데 3곡 이상 차트인 한 건 걸그룹은 뉴진스가 처음으로, 지금까지는 방탄소년단(BTS)이 유일했다. ‘겟 업’은 ‘걸크러쉬’ 같은 강한 기조보다 부드럽고, 자연스러운 매력을 담아 냈다. 특히 ‘뉴진스만’의 개성과 감성을 예쁜 음색에 어우러진 중독성 있는 유로팝 사운드로 잘 표현했다는 평가를 받는다.지난 7일 앞서 발매된 ‘슈퍼 샤이’(Super Shy)는 ‘핫100’ 순위에서 16계단 상승하며 48위에 안착했고, ‘ETA’ 81위, ‘쿨 위드 유’(Cool With You)가 93위로 새로 진입했다. ‘글로벌200’ 차트에는 수록곡 6곡이 모두 이름을 올려 ‘슈퍼 샤이’는 3위로 순항 중이다. 이번 ‘빌보드200’ 차트 결과는 ‘겟 업’과 영화 ‘바비’ OST의 치열한 1위 다툼으로 예정보다 사흘 늦게 발표됐다. 빌리 아이리시, 두아 리파 등 인기 팝스타와 걸그룹 ‘피프티 피프티’ 등이 참여한 ‘바비’ OST는 이번 주 12만 6000장 상당의 판매량으로 ‘빌보드200’ 2위를 기록했다.

‘뉴진스’가 K팝 걸그룹 처음으로 세계 최대 팝시장인 미국 빌보드의 메인 싱글차트 ‘핫100’ 3곡 이상 동시 진입 기록을 써내려갈 지 주목된다. 뉴진스의 미니 2집 ‘겟 업(Get Up)’의 6곡 전곡이 글로벌 최대 스트리밍 플랙폼 스포티파이 미국 ‘데일리 톱 송’에 진입했다. 소속사 어도어는 24일 ‘슈퍼 샤이(Super Shy)’(10위)를 비롯해 ‘쿨 위드 유(Cool With You)’(16위), ‘뉴 진스(New Jeans)’(20위), ‘ETA’(22위), ‘ASAP’(25위), ‘겟 업(Get Up)’(32위) 모두 순위권에 들었다고 밝혔다. 스포티파이의 미 차트 상위권에 안착한 건 팝 시장내 뉴진스의 글로벌 인기가 성공적으로 안착했다는 방증으로 평가된다. 한 그룹의 앨범 전곡이 차트 50위 내에 든 것은 처음으로, 빌보드 핵심 차트인 ‘핫100’의 성적과도 연게된다. 지난 7일 선공개된 ‘슈퍼 샤이’는 ‘핫100’에서 22일자로 66위를 기록했다. 빌보드 ‘글로벌200’에서는 2위에 올라섰다. 이번 ‘겟 업’ 앨범 수록곡 중에서 ‘디토’ ‘오엠지(OMG)’, ‘슈퍼 샤이’에 이은 ‘핫100’ 진입곡이 연달아 나올 가능성이 기대된다. 지금까지 K팝 걸그룹으로 빌보드 ‘핫100’에 2곡이 동시에 진입한 팀은 ‘블랙핑크’와 ‘뉴진스’ 뿐이다. 3곡 이상 동시 진입시킨 건 방탄소년단(BTS)이 유일하다. 뉴진스의 6곡 모두가 스포티파이의 미국 지표에서 인기가 뜨거운 만큼 BTS 기록을 다시 쓸 수 있다는 기대도 나온다. 국내 주요 차트 정상을 싹쓸이 중인 뉴진스의 ‘겟 업’ 실물 음반은 현재까지 120만장 넘게 팔려 선주문량(172만장)을 빠르게 채워가고 있다. 미국내 음반 판매량 지표는 아직 공개되지 않았지만 메인 앨범차트 ‘빌보드200’에 처음으로 진입하는 건 무난할 것으로 예상된다. 뉴진스는 내달 3~6일 미국 시카고의 대형 음악 페스티벌 ‘롤라팔루자 시카고’ 출연이 예정돼 미 팝 시장의 글로벌 존재감도 더욱 키워갈 것으로 보인다.

40th Anniversary of Korea-Pakistan Diplomatic Relations…Interview with Pakistan Ambassador to Korea Nabeel Munir This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Pakistan. Could you tell us about your relationship with Korea? Thank you. First of all, thank you for coming and interviewing me. Pakistan and Korea established diplomatic relations in 1983 and that's why we are celebrating 40 years of our establishment of diplomatic relations. But, the actual people to people contacts between Pakistan and Korea are much older. Many of Koreans don't know that buddhism in Korea came from Pakistan. And monk marananta who brought buddhism to Korea almost 1600 years ago was came from Pakistan and his monastery is still here in Korea. In Pakistan, there is also a Buddhist monastery of Monk Marananta in the Swabi region. For the past 40 years, Korea and Pakistan have maintained good relations. During the Korean war, Pakistan supported Korea through financial support, and we were one of the top three financial supporters of Korea during the Korean war. We have an excellent economic relationship and we have a trade relationship that is more than 1.6 billion dollars.  There are many Korean big companies such as Samsung, Kia, Hyundai and Lotte in Pakistan, as well as Korean electric companies that have built hydroelectric power plants. Daewoo, which built Pakistan’s first highway in the 1980s, still have investments in Pakistan and then also on people to people contacts. There are Pakistanis who are living in Korea. There are almost 13,000 Pakistanis living in Korea. They're working in diverse fields. Many of them are students and researchers in the universities. There are Pakistanis laborers who come to Korea. Korea has the EPS and has given a quota to Pakistani laborers. Currently, Korea grants over 2,000 quotas per year to Pakistani workers under the Employment Permit System. Then, we have good defense collaboration and we have good political collaboration. After the ASEAN meeting held in Cambodia last year, the Korean foreign minister visited Pakistan along with the Pakistani foreign minister. I think there is great potential to expand cooperation in the economic aspect between the two countries in the future. We have a population of 240 million and if you compare it with Korea, that's about five times. So you can imagine how big the economy. We have a very large middle class and fortunately, the young population is very large, accounting for 65% of the total population. Korea has a declining population, but, we have one of the fastest growing populations in the world. So, I think that is also why there is human resource that we can provide to Korea as well. I mean that although we have maintained good relations already, but there is a lot of potential for further expansion in the future.Can you please tell us the history and culture that you'd like more Korean to know about Pakistan? As I said, currently, Pakistan is a young country with a population of 240 million, but it has a long history as the origin of several ancient civilizations such as the Indus Civilization. In Pakistan, relics from before the Gandhara Kingdom of 8,500 years ago still remain. So we are one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Then of course, there are stupas from thousands of years ago related to the Gandhara civilization based on Buddhism. Old cities such as Taxila remain, which were centers of art, religion and education during the heyday of Buddhist culture in the 5th century BC. Taxila, located between the Indus and Hydaspes rivers, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. Pakistan has five of the world's 14 highest mountains, including K2 (8611m), the second highest in the world. Nanga Parbat, which is over 8000m high, is considered a dangerous mountain to climb. Adventurous tourists can enjoy river rafting, and there are many beautiful mountains that can be climbed by normal person like me. Pakistan has three of the world's greatest mountain ranges, the Karakoram, Hindu Kush and Himalayas. And we have many tourist attractions including beautiful sandy beaches, deserts, cultural history and religious tourism that can be recognized by name. And we have beautiful four seasons. Due to geographical characteristics, even during summer, we can have a temperature of minus 20 and plus 40 at the same time. Yes, it‘s a big country. Pakistan has an area of 800,000 square kilometers which is 8 times the size of South Korea. So it's a big country. Pakistan was a British colony for 90 years from 1857 and gained independence in 1947. So, the history of the independence movement is also similar to that of Korea. We also went through difficult wars such as the Korean War. Can you introduce some tourist spots in Pakistan to Koreans that Koreans might like? Our national religion is islam, but a lot of Buddhist culture remains. The ‘Statue of Penance of Siddhartha’ in the Lahore Museum is a very important Buddha statue for Buddhists, and was sculpted around the 2nd century as a work of Gandhara art that combines Greek Hellenism and Buddhism. Takti-Bahi, a Buddhist temple built in the early 1st century, is one of the largest and best-preserved Buddhist temples. In my hometown, Lahore, you can see the buildings of the Mughal Empire, which was once the world's largest economy. The beautiful Deosai National Park is an alpine zone with an altitude of 3500 to 5200 m, and is a place of outstanding ecological value. Multan, in the Punjab province, is home to numerous archaeological sites from the early Harappan period of the Indus Valley Civilization, 3300 BC. In addition, there are the Pakistani National Faisal Mosque in the capital, Islamabad, the Mohenjodaro Archaeological Site, the oldest in South Asia, and the Cholistan Desert. The Kalasha are the smallest ethnic group in Pakistan, with only a few thousand remaining. It has been designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage as an ancient tribe with its own way of life, religion, and language. In Multan, a pottery craft called 'Kashi', which is called blue pottery art, is still going on. Truck art is a popular decorative form in South Asia, and truck art in Pakistan is famous for its elaborate and colorful floral patterns and calligraphy.  What should Koreans do to travel to Pakistan? Are there any safety or security issues? There are no direct flights from Korea yet, but it's not too far. There are flights via Bangkok, China, Dubai, Qatar, etc. The shortest route is via Bangkok. It takes about 4 hours from Bangkok to Pakistan. Perhaps if there is a direct flight, you can go to Pakistan in about 6 hours. There are a lot of negative media reports about security issues. There were some security issues a few years ago, but now most Pakistani cities and tourist destinations are considered safe. And also, it is not difficult to apply for a visa and make hotel reservations.   Please tell us about the Korean wave that pakistani are interested in. Korea is becoming very well known. K-pop and k-drama are popular in Pakistan. You can find a lot of BTS fans in Pakistan and my own niece can speak a little bit of Korean now because she watches K-drama through NETFLIX. K-culture is gaining popularity in Pakistan and the Korean Embassy in Pakistan is also planning an event to invite K-pop stars to Pakistan. Personally, I like Korean dramas, so I watched ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Crash Landing on You’.    What are some travel destinations you've been to in Korea so far and which travel destinations in Korea you would like to recommend to Pakistan? I think it’s Busan. I've been to Busan many times and Busan is beautiful city. I also went to the Pyeongchang Ski Resort, where the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics were held, and it was really beautiful. Also, the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) in northern Gyeonggi Province and Pohang were also very good. Recently, I went to Jeju Island. Jeju Island is also a wonderful place.  The most memorable places in Busan are Haeundae Beach and Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. What should be done to make exchanges between Pakistan and Korea more active in the future? I believe that people to people exchange is the foundation of all relationships. When people get to know the other country then they get more interested and then everything else follows whether it's economy whether it's political context whether it's culture. The priority is for more Pakistanis to visit Korea and more Koreans to visit Pakistan. I think more Koreans need to visit Pakistan to clear up their misunderstandings and concerns about Pakistan. I always say that Pakistan is a beautiful country, a safe country to travel in, and a good place to do business that can provide very good opportunities for Korean companies.Yeah. So are you planning to have any big events or conference? Because this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Korean and Pakistan. We will be having an investment conference at Ambassador Hotel in Seoul on 27th of July for which Pakistan's minister for investment is coming. In August, a music night will be held with the support of the Seoul National Cemetery. It will be held at the outdoor theater of the National Seoul Museum. On August 11, concerts such as Arirang will be held in Pakistan. Every October, a multicultural festival held under the theme of one country is held in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. This year's theme is Pakistan. Pakistani musicians give a cultural performance. We are planning a music concert in Seoul in October with cultural and musicians from Pakistan.   “유럽에서 가장 오래된 도시인 세르비아의 수도 베오그라드는 세르비아 고유 문화 뿐 아니라 오스트리아, 헝가리, 터키 오스만 제국의 영향을 받은 역사적인 도시입니다.” 네마냐 그르비치(Nemanja Grbic) 세르비아 대사는 13일 서울 중구 세종대로 주한 세르비아 대사관에서 “세르비아가 한국에는 잘 알려져 있지 않지만 베오그라드에는 발칸반도에서 제일 큰 성당인 성 사바 성당(St.SavaTemple)과 14세기 지어진 칼레메그단(Kalemegdan) 요새가 있다”며 이같이 말했다. 그르비아 대사는 이어 “세르비아는 유럽연합 가입 공식 후보국이며 ICT(정보통신기술) 분야가 빠르게 성장하고 있는 국가”라며 “세르비아는 ICT 등 4차 산업혁명과 지식기반 산업을 최우선에 두고 있다”고 강조했다. 남동부 유럽의 발칸반도 중앙에 위치한 세르비아는 오랜 내전과 전쟁으로 ‘발칸의 화약고’로 불렸지만 지금은 민주화가 이뤄졌고, 사회가 안정화되면서 디지털 강국으로 변모하고 있다. 테슬라 자동차의 원리를 개발한 과학자가 바로 세르비아계 미국인인 니콜라스 테슬라(1856~1943)다. 세르비아 화폐에도 등장하는 인물이다. 그르비아 대사는 한국과의 관계에 대해 “세르비아는 한국에 매우 우호적인 국가”라면서 “10대와 20대를 중심으로 ‘한류’가 빠르게 확산되고 있는 상황에서 양국의 교류가 더 많아졌으면 좋겠다”고 말했다. 이어 “최근 베오그라드에 한국 식품 매장이 문을 열었는데 이틀 만에 모든 물량이 매진되었다고 들었다”면서 “젊은 세대간의 여행과 교육 등에서 교류가 이어지고, 한국의 많은 기업들이 진출하길 희망한다”고 강조했다. 다음은 그르비치 대사와의 일문일답.    ▷ 세르비아는 어떤 나라인가. - 세르비아는 동남유럽의 교차로에 위치한 역사와 전통이 매우 풍부한 나라다. 북쪽으로 헝가리, 북서쪽으로 세르비아, 남쪽으로 불가리아, 동쪽으로 루마니아와 경계를 이루고 있어 역사적으로 때로는 좋은 영향을 받기도 했고, 때로는 나쁜 영향을 받기도 했다. 현재는 주변 국가들과 좋은 이웃 관계를 맺고 있다. 현대 민주주의 국가이자 유럽연합 가입 공식 후보국이며 경제가 빠르게 성장하고 있다. 한국과는 지리적으로 먼 나라지만 문화와 전통에 있어서는 상당히 가깝다고 생각한다. 앞으로 양국 간 협력을 강화할 수 있는 좋은 기반이 있다고 생각한다. 그리고 테슬라 자동차 테슬라 자동차 회사는 누구나 알고 있지만 테슬라의 원리를 개발한 과학자가 세르비아계 미국인인 니콜라스 테슬라(1856~1943)라는 것을 한국에서는 아는 사람이 많지 않다. 그는 세르비아 가정에서 태어났고 나중에 미국으로 이주했다. 세르비아 주요 관문이 그의 이름을 딴 니콜라 테슬라 공항이고, 세르비아 화폐에도 등장한다.      ▷ 한국인에게 추천하고 싶은 관광명소는. - 세르비아에는 역사와 문화 유산을 탐험하길 좋아하는 한국인들에게 추천할 만한 많은 관광지가 있다. 수도인 베오그라드라는 유럽에서 가장 오래된 도시이자 역사적인 도시로 세르비아 고유 문화 뿐 아니라 오스트리아와 헝가리, 터키 오스만 제국의 영향을 받은 곳이기도 하다. 베오그라드에서 꼭 가봐야 할 곳은 베오그라드 요새로 불리는 칼레메그단과 세계에서 가장 큰 정교회 중 하나인 성 사바 성당이다. 칼레메그단은 중세 시대인 14세기와 15세기에 지어진 것으로 도시의 문화와 역사의 중심지였다. 경치가 아름다운 사바강과 도나우강이 만나는 스타리그라드의 높이 125.5m 지대에 있다. 정상에서는 두 강이 합류해 흑해로 흘러가는 아름다운 모습을 볼 수 있다. 요새 안에는 박물관과 정원, 동물원 등 다양한 볼거리가 있다. 흥미로운 이야기는 이곳 동물원에 세계에서 가장 나이가 많은 악어가 살고 있다. 정확하게 몇 살인지 확실하지는 않지만 1, 2차 세계대전을 두 번이나 겪으면서도 살아남았다. 아마 100살 정도 됐을 것이다. 성 사바 교회는 세계에서 가장 큰 정교회 중 하나다. 100년 전에 지어지기 시작해서 몇 년 전에야 완공됐다. 1, 2차 세계대전, 유고슬라비아 전쟁 등 전쟁과 격동의 역사를 겪으면서 많은 시간이 걸렸기 때문이다. 13세기 세르비아 정교회의 설립자인 ‘성 사바’를 기념해 비잔티움 건축 양식으로 지은 대성당이다. 세르비아에 역사적이고 중요한 장소다.     ▷ 세르비아를 방문하려면. - 아직 한국에서 세르비아로 가는 직항편이 없다. 보통 터키나 카타르, 아랍 에미리트 등을 경유한다. 폴란드 등 주변 국가를 통해서 올 수도 있다. 치안은 여행객들이 다른 나라르 여행할 때와 마찬가지로 일반적 안전 사항만 준수한다면 안전한 국가이다. 관광객의 안전을 위협할 만한 시위나 전쟁 등의 상황은 없다. 세르비아는 매우 따뜻한 마음을 가진 사람들이고 외국인 관광객들의 방문을 좋아한다. 한국인들의 많은 방문을 기대한다.    ▷ 세르비아에 한류가 어느 정도 알려졌나. - 세르비아에서 자란 중장년층은 한국에 대한 정보를 많이 접하지 못했기 때문에 아직은 많이 알지 못한다. 하지만 10대나 20대와 같은 젊은 세대들은 K팝, K드라마, K무비, K푸드, K뷰티 등을 통해 한국에 대해 많이 알고 있다. 최근 베오그라드에 한국 식품 매장이 오픈했는데 이틀 만에 모든 물량이 매진되었다고 한다. 그만큼 한국 식품의 인기가 높고, 그만큼 한국에 대한 이미지가 좋아지고 있다는 뜻이다. 예전에도 양국의 관계가 좋았지만 이는 양국 교류를 확대하기 위한 매우 매우 긍정적인 추세라고 생각한다. 방탄소년단(BTS)이나 블랙핑크 같은 그룹이 인기가 많다. 세르비아에서 K팝을 온라인 등으로 판매하는 유학생들도 많이 있다. 태권도도 큰 인기다. 세르비아도 국제대회에서 태권도로 많은 메달을 땄다. 태권도 올림픽에서 2명이 금메달을 땄는데 결승에서 종주국인 한국 선수들을 이기고 금메달을 땄다. 세르비아에서도 태권도가 인기가 많기 때문에 앞으로 두 나라 간의 태권도 교류 등을 통해 관계를 더욱 돈독히 하고 싶다.     ▷ 세르비아에 유명한 스포츠 선수들이 많은데 - 세르비아는 축구, 농구, 배구, 테니스, 수구 등에서 세계적인 선수들이 많다. 대사관에 들어올 때 보셨듯이 테니스 메이저대회 23회를 우승한 노박 조코비치라는 아주 유명한 테니스 선수가 있다. 또 다른 선수는 NBA 덴버 너기츠에서 뛰고 있는 니콜라 요키치다. 이 두 사람이 요즘 세르비아에서 가장 인기 있는 스포츠인이라고 할 수 있다. 세르비아는 체격 조건이 좋고, 다양한 스포츠에서 매우 오랜 전통을 가지고 있다. 저도 테니스 등 다양한 스포츠를 즐긴다. 세르비아 테니스협회 홍보대사로 대한테니스협회와 다양한 교류를 하고 있다.    ▷ 좋아하는 한국 드라마나 한국 영화는. - 아내와 한국 드라마를 많이 본다. 한국 드라마를 통해 한국어를 배우려고 노력하고 있고, 드라마를 통해 한국의 문화, 특히 사회적인 면을 많이 배우고 있다. 최근에는 ‘킹덤’과 ‘글로리’를 봤다. 제가 개인적으로 좋아하는 드라마는 ‘서른아홉’이다. 저보다 조금 어린 세 친구에 대한 이야기라서 나이적으로 공감할 수 있었다. 이 드라마는 어렸을 때부터 친구들 간의 관계, 연인 간의 관계, 직장에서의 관계 등 한국 사회의 모습을 많이 볼 수 있어 흥미로웠다.     ▷ 세르비아가 디지털 강국으로 성장하고 있는데. 세르비아는 생명공학이나 게임 산업, 인공지능, ICT 등의 분야에서 굉장히 빠르게 성장하고 있다. 예전에는 농업이 우리 경제의 주요 부분이었다면 이제는 ICT라고 생각한다. 그래서 우리 ICT 기업들이 세르비아에서 설립된 ICT 기업뿐만 아니라 세계 각지에서 세르비아로 온 ICT 기업들도 많이 수출을 하고 있다. 4차 산업혁명과 지식 기반 경제와 관련된 모든 것이 우리 정부의 우선 순위이자 초점이 되고 있다. 한국은 디지털 분야에서 세계 최고 국가 중 하나다. 그래서 한국으로부터 배우고 싶고, 이 분야에 대해 교류를 확대하고 싶다.   ▷세르비아가 ICT 분야에 성장 비결은. - ICT 관련 인력이 부족한 요즘 세르비아에는 관련 교육을 받은 많은 우수한 인재들이 있기에 가능하다. 이들은 공학과 자연과학 분야에서 매우 훌륭한 교육을 받았다. ICT 분야의 경우 큰 공장이 필요하지 않기 때문 빠르게 성장할 수 있었다. 최근 세르비아의 게임 회사 몇 곳이 한국에 와서 한국게임협회와 게임 회사 등과 만났다. 게임과 e스포츠 강국인 한국으로부터 게임 분야의 스타트업들이 어떻게 하면 더 크게 성장할 수 있는지, 어떻게 하면 더 좋은 환경을 조성할 수 있는지를 배우고 싶다. 그래서 이 ICT 게임 분야에서 많은 교류를 할 수 있을 것 같고, 전자정부와 스마트시티 분야에서도 매우 강력한 협력 관계를 맺고 있다. 현재 세르비아에서 두 번째로 큰 도시인 노비사드(Novi Sad)는 한국개발연구원, 삼성SDS와 함께 스마트시티 역량을 구축하는 프로젝트도 진행하고 있다.    ▷ 젊은 세대 간의 교류를 활성화하려면. - 앞서 언급한대로 양국 간 여행이 중요하다고 생각한다. 또 하나는 교육 교류다. 매년 세르비아에서 글로벌 커리어 장학생으로 한국인 5명 정도 뽑는다. 이 외에도 대학원 석사, 박사 과정을 여기서 공부하고 있는 학생들의 숫자가 매년 늘어나고 있다. 매년 5명을 뽑는 글로벌 커리어 장하생에 500~600명 정도가 지원한다. 한국외국어대학교에 세르비아어학당이 있는데 매년 50~60명 정도의 학생들이 세르비아어를 공부하고 있다. 최근 세르비아 여행 인플루언서 3명이 한국을 방문해 한국을 아주 멋지게 홍보해줬다. 그들은 주로 서울에 머물렀지만 서울 외의 다른 도시도 방문했고 이를 세르비아에서 많은 호응을 얻었다. 세르비아도 한국 인플루언서들과 영화 제작자, 드라마 제작자들이 찾을 수 있도록 더 많은 노력을 기울일 생각이다. 세르비아에서 한국 드라마를 촬영하면 관광객들에게 큰 인기를 얻을 수 있을 것으로 생각한다.    ▷ 세르비아 사람들에게 추천하고 싶은 한국 관광지는. - 세르비아에서 한국에 온 손님들에게 제가 개인적으로 가장 좋아하고 항상 추천하는 곳은 강원도다. 특히 속초, 강릉, 양양, 설악산이다. 서울에서 그리 멀지 않으면서도 아름다운 산과 숲, 스키, 하이킹, 해변 산책을 즐길 수 있다. 한국의 많은 지역을 방문했지만 특히 동해안 지역과 강원도는 이미 10번 정도 가봤고, 더 가볼 생각이다. 최근 제주도에 처음 갔는데, 제주도는 독특한 문화와 식생 등 모든 것이 다르기 때문에 꼭 추천하고 싶은 곳 중 하나다. 화산섬과 아름다운 해변, 바다, 그리고 흑돼지 삼겹살은 확실히 추천하고 싶다. 경기 파주나 판문점 같은 서울 북쪽의 아름다운 자연과 유적지, 아름다운 강 호수 같은 곳도 좋아한다.     ▷ 끝으로 한국인들에게 하고 싶은 말씀이 있다면. 인터뷰 초반에 강조했지만 세르비아는 한국에 우호적인 국가라는 점이다. 세르비아 국민들은 한국인들에게 우호적이고, 한국에 대한 이미지가 매우 긍정적이어서 더 많은 한국인들의 방문을 환영하고 있다. 최근 관광객뿐만 아니라 학생과 전문직 종사자, 그리고 세르비아에 투자하는 한국 기업들도 늘어나고 있다. 더 많은 한국 기업들의 진출을 희망한다.   Serbia, at the crossroads of Southeast Europe... Interview with Serbian Ambassador to Korea Nemanja Grbic [Hello World]   “Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, the oldest city in Europe, is a historic city influenced by Austria, Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire as well as Serbia’s own culture.” Serbian Ambassador Nemanja Grbic said at the Serbian Embassy in Seoul on the 13th, “Serbia is not well known in Korea, but in Belgrade there is a largest cathedral in the Balkans, St. Sava Temple and there is a Kalemegdan Fortress, built in the 14th century.,” “Serbia is an official candidate for joining the European Union, and the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) field is growing rapidly.” Ambassador Grbic said, "Serbia puts the fourth industrial revolution and knowledge-based industries such as ICT at the top of its list." Serbia, located in the center of the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe, was called the 'powder keg of the Balkans' due to long civil war, but is now being democratized and transformed into a digital powerhouse as society stabilizes. The who developed important inventions in the field of electrical engineering was Nikola Tesla (1856~1943), a Serbian-American. He is also featured on Serbian currency. Regarding the relationship with Korea, Ambassador Grbic said, "Serbia is a very friendly country to Korea," adding, "I hope there will be more exchanges between the two countries at a time when the 'Korean Wave' is rapidly spreading, especially among teenagers and young people in their 20s." "I heard that a Korean food store recently opened in Belgrade, and all the goods were sold out in two days," he said. "I hope that exchanges will continue in travel and education among young generations, and that many Korean companies will enter Serbia." The following is a Q&A with Ambassador Grbic.  ▷ What kind of country is Serbia? - Serbia is a country with a very rich history and tradition located at the crossroads of Southeast Europe, which historically affected it both for good and bad. It is bordered by Hungary to the north, (Bulgaria and Romania to the East), North Macedonia and Montenegro to the South, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia to the West. Currently, it has good neighborhood relations with neighboring countries. Serbia is a modern democracy, an official candidate for EU membership, and its economy is growing rapidly. Although Korea is geographically far away, but I think it is quite close in terms of culture and tradition. I think there is a good foundation to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the future. And although everyone knows about Tesla cars, not many people in Korea know that the scientist who inspired Elon Musk was Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), a Serbian-American scientist in the field of electrical engineering. He was born into a Serbian family and later moved to the United States. The main Serbian gateway is Nikola Tesla Airport named after him, and he also appears in Serbian currency.  ▷ What are the tourist attractions you would like to recommend to Koreans? - Serbia has many tourist destinations that are recommended for Koreans who like to explore history and cultural heritage. Belgrade, the capital, is one of Europe's oldest and most historic cities. It is also a place influenced not only by Serbian culture, but also by Austria, Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. Just Ottoman Empire is enough, no need to put both Turkey and Ottoman Empire. The must-visit places in Belgrade are Kalemegdan, called the Belgrade Fortress, and St. Sava Cathedral, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.  Kalemegdan was built it is much older than that, first fortifications go back to Celtic and Roman period, so it was built during an ancient era, and was the cultural and historical center of the city. It is located at an altitude of 125.5m in Stari grad Old town, where the scenic Sava and Danube rivers meet. At the top, you can see the two rivers merge after which Danube continues its flow into the Black Sea.  Inside the fortress, there are various attractions such as museum, garden, and a zoo. An interesting story is that the world's oldest crocodile lives here in this zoo. I'm not sure how old it is, but it survived two World Wars. Probably more than 100 years old.  St. Sava is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. It started to be built 100 years ago and was only completed a few years ago. This is because it took a lot of time to go through wars and turbulent history, such as World War I and II, and the Yugoslav Wars. It is a cathedral built in the Byzantine architectural style in commemoration of 'Saint Sava', the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the 13th century. It is a historical and important place in Serbia.  ▷ How to visit Serbia? - There are no direct flights from Korea to Serbia yet. There are usually flights via Turkey, Qatar, and the Arab Emirates. And we can also come through European countries such as Poland.  Security: Serbia is a safe country as long as travelers follow the general safety precautions as they do when traveling to other countries. There are no protests or wars that could threaten the safety of tourists. Serbia has very warm-hearted people and likes foreign tourists. We look forward to many visits from Koreans.  ▷ How well is the Korean wave known in Serbia? - The middle-aged people who grew up in Serbia do not know much about Korea yet because they do not have much information about Korea. However, younger generations such as teenagers and people in their 20s know a lot about Korea through K-pop, K-drama, K-movie, K-food, and K-beauty. Recently, a Korean food store opened in Belgrade, and all items were sold out in two days. This means that Korean food is so popular, and that the image of Korea is getting better. Relations between the two countries have been good before, but I think this is a very, very positive trend to expand bilateral exchanges. Groups like BTS and Blackpink are popular. There are also many Serbian students selling K-pop products online in Serbia. Taekwondo is also very popular. Serbia also won many medals in taekwondo at international competitions. Two girls won medals at the Tokyo Olympics, by beating Korean athletes, the home country of Taekwondo. Since Taekwondo is also popular in Serbia, I would like to strengthen relations through Taekwondo exchanges between the two countries in the future.  ▷ There are many famous sports players in Serbia. - Serbia has many world-class players in football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and water polo. As you saw when you entered the embassy, there is a poster of very famous tennis player named Novak Djokovic who won 23 major tennis tournaments. Another player is basketball star Nikola Jokic, who plays for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. These two are the most popular sportsmen in Serbia these days. Serbians has a good physique and a very long tradition in various sports. I also enjoy various sports such as tennis. As a founder of Ambassadors’ Tennis Association in Seoul, I have a wish to initiate various exchanges with the Korea Tennis Association. ▷ What is your favorite Korean drama or movie? - I watch a lot of Korean dramas with my wife. I'm trying to learn Korean through Korean dramas, and I'm learning a lot of Korean culture, especially the social aspect through dramas. I recently watched 'Kingdom' and 'Glory'. My personal favorite drama is '39'. It was a story about three friends who were a little younger than me, so I could relate to them and their generational chalenges. This drama was interesting to see many aspects of Korean society, such as relationships between friends, lovers, and relationships at work from an early age.  ▷ Serbia is growing into a digital powerhouse. Serbia is growing very rapidly in fields such as biotechnology, gaming industry, artificial intelligence, and ICT. In the past, agriculture was a major part of our economy, but now I believe it is the ICT. So, our ICT companies established in Serbia, are exporting a lot. Everything related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the knowledge-based economy is becoming the priority and focus for our government. Korea is one of the world's leading countries in the digital field. So, we want to learn from Korea and expand exchanges in this field.  ▷ What is the secret of Serbia's growth in the ICT sector? - These days, when ICT-related manpower is scarce, Serbia is thriving because there are many excellent talents who have received related education. They received a very good education in engineering and natural sciences. In the case of the ICT sector, it was able to grow rapidly because it did not require a large factory and manual workforce. Recently, several Serbian game companies came to Korea and met with the Korea Gaming Association and game companies. We want to learn from Korea, a powerhouse in games and e-sports, how startups in the gaming industry can grow bigger and how to create a better environment. So I think we can have a lot of exchanges in this ICT gaming field, and we have a very strong cooperative relationship in the fields of e-government and smart city. Currently, Serbia's second largest city, Novi Sad, is also carrying out a project to build smart city capabilities with the Korea Development Institute and Samsung SDS.  ▷ To activate exchanges between younger generations. - As mentioned earlier, I think travel between the two countries is important. Another is educational exchange. Every year, Korea selects about 5 Serbian students as global career scholarship students. In addition to this, the number of students studying graduate master's and doctoral programs here is increasing every year. About 500 to 600 people apply for the Global Career Scholarship, which selects 5 students every year. There is a Serbian language institute at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and about 50 to 60 students study Serbian every year. Recently, three Serbian travel influencers visited Korea and promoted Korea very well. They mostly stayed in Seoul, but they also visited other cities outside of Seoul, and this was well received in Serbia. Serbia is also planning to make more efforts so that Korean influencers, film producers, and drama producers can find it. I think that filming Korean dramas in Serbia will be very popular with tourists. ▷ What Korean tourist attractions do you want to recommend to Serbians? - Gangwon-do is my personal favorite and always recommended place to guests who came to Korea from Serbia. Especially, Sokcho, Gangneung, Yangyang, and Seoraksan. It is not too far from Seoul, but you can enjoy beautiful mountains and forests, skiing, hiking, and walking on the beach. I have visited many parts of Korea, but I have already been to the East Coast region and Gangwon-do about 10 times, and I am thinking of going there more. Recently, I went to Jeju Island for the first time, and it is one of the places I want to recommend because everything is different, including unique culture and vegetation. I definitely recommend volcanic island, beautiful beach, sea, and black pork belly. I also like beautiful nature and historical sites in northern Seoul, such as Paju and Panmunjom in Gyeonggi Province, and beautiful river lakes.  ▷ Lastly, is there anything you want to say to Koreans? As I emphasized at the beginning of the interview, Serbia is a friendly country to Korea. The Serbian people are friendly to Koreans and have such a positive image of Korea that more Koreans are welcome to visit. Recently, not only tourists, but also students, professionals, and Korean companies interested in Serbia are on the rise. <편집자 주> 지구촌 별별 이야기를 담는 나우뉴스는 외국인 오피니언 리더들의 눈과 입을 통해 세계의 다양하고 유익한 정보를 전하는 ‘헬로 월드’를 연재하고 있습니다. 인터뷰는 유엔공식벤더로 인정받은 통역번역 전문법인 (주)제이엠 커넥티드 임지민 대표와 함께 진행합니다. “에스토니아 수도 탈린(Tallinn)은 13~16세기 북유럽 무역 중심지로 구시가지(올드타운)에는 북유럽 중세시대 건물이 잘 보존돼 있습니다.” 스텐 슈베데(Sten Schwede) 주한 에스토니아 대사는 17일 서울 중구 남대문로 서울스퀘어 1층에 있는 에스토니아 비즈니스 허브에서 “에스토니아를 방문한다면 구시가지를 꼭 둘러봐야 한다”며 이같이 말했다. 북유럽의 발트 3국 중 최북단에 위치한 에스토니아는 인구 132만명 국가로 전 국토의 3분의 1이 울창한 삼림으로 덮여있어 ‘유럽의 아마존’이라고 불린다. 에스토니아 수도 탈린의 옛 시가지는 중세시대 건물들이 원형 그대로 보존돼 있어 ‘에스토니아 탈린 역사지구’(Historic Centre of Tallinn)는 1997년 유네스코 세계문화유산으로도 등재됐다. 구시가지 성벽 사이로는 1500년 완공 당시 세계 최고 높이를 자랑한 올레비스떼 성당이 있다. 에스토니아는 정보통신 강국이다. 에스토니아는 회사 설립, 은행계좌 개설, 소득세 신고 등을 인터넷으로 쉽게 처리할 수 있다. 영상통화 서비스 스카이프(skype)가 에스토니아에서 탄생했다. 에스토니아는 2014년부터 전세계 기업가들이 온라인으로 에스토니아에서 사업을 시작할 수 있는 ‘전자영주권’(e-Residency) 제도를 시행하고 있다. 슈베데 대사를 만나 에스토니아에 대한 이야기를 들어봤다. 다음은 일문일답.  ▷ 에스토니아는 어떤 나라인가. - 발트해 연안에 있는 에스토니아는 한국과 매우 유사한 역사를 가지고 있다. 한국인과 마찬가지로 에스토니아 사람들도 크고 강력한 이웃 국가들 사이에서 살아남기 위해 때로는 힘겨운 노력을 기울여야 했다. 에스토니아 영토는 역사적으로 덴마크, 독일, 스웨덴, 폴란드, 러시아가 지배했다. 에스토니아는 1918년에 독립을 이뤘고, 올해 독립 105주년을 맞이했다. 1940년부터 1991년까지 에스토니아는 소련(구 러시아)에 점령당했다. 독립 후 에스토니아는 다른 자유 국가들과 다시 시작할 수 있었다. 1991년은 에스토니아와 한국이 함께 유엔 회원국이 된 해다. 양국 간의 활발한 교류는 같은 해에 시작된 셈이다. 양국 간의 접촉은 최근 5년 사이 많이 강화됐다. 2018년에는 케르스티 칼률라이드 에스토니아 대통령이 한국을 방문했다. 에스토니아 정부가 서울에 대사관을 개설하기로 결정한 직후였다. 현재 주한 에스토니아 대사관은 서울 도심에 있는 서울스퀘어 빌딩에 있다. 같은 건물 1층 로비에는 에스토니아 비즈니스 허브 서울을 개소해 에스토니아에 대한 정보를 얻고자 하는 모든 사람들에게 개방하고 있다. 에스토니아 비즈니스 허브 서울은 에스토니아와 한국 기업 간의 접촉을 촉진하고 에스토니아를 여행을 홍보하기 위한 곳이다. ▷ 한국인들에게 추천하고 싶은 관광 명소는. - 에스토니아를 방문한다면 수도 탈린은 꼭 둘러봐야 한다. 탈린의 구시가지는 완벽하게 잘 보존된 중세 북유럽 무역 도시다. 탈린은 13~16세기에 중요한 무역 중심지로 발전했다. 오늘날 탈린의 구시가지에는 관광객들에게 사랑받는 많은 레스토랑, 카페, 바, 미술관, 박물관, 상점이 있다. 타르투, 페르누, 나르바 등 다른 도시도 추천한다. 도시를 벗어나 자연을 경험하고 싶은 분들을 위해 잘 준비된 하이킹 코스와 조직된 투어를 통해 숲과 습지를 탐험할 수 있다. 에스토니아의 자연은 야생동물로 가득하기 때문에 곰이나 조류 관찰을 할 수 있다. 에스토니아에는 2000개가 넘는 섬이 있다. 가장 큰 두 개의 섬인 사레마와 히이우마는 독특한 섬 문화를 가진 곳으로 꼭 방문할 가치가 있다. 추운 겨울에는 해빙 위에 설치된 공식 빙상 도로를 통해 운전을 해서 섬에 갈 수 있다. ▷ 에스토니아 사람들은 한국에 대해 얼마나 알고 있나. - 에스토니아 사람들은 한국을 잘 알고 있으며 한국 문화는 에스토니아에서 점점 더 인기를 얻고 있다.  많은 에스토니아인들이 한국 자동차를 운전하거나 집에서 한국 제품을 사용하고 있다. 점점 더 많은 젊은이들이 한국어를 배우고 한국 유학에 관심을 갖고 있다.  ▷ 한국에서 추천하고 싶은 관광지는 어디인가. - 에스토니아 사람들에게 아름다운 수도 서울을 방문하라고 말하고 싶다. 그리고 한국의 동해안과 부산, 그리고 제주도를 추천한다.  ▷ 에스토니아와 한국 간의 교류를 더욱 활성화하려면. - 먼저 항공권 가격이 내려가서 더 많은 사람들이 양국을 방문할 수 있어야 한다. 항공업계가 정상화되면 양쪽 모두 관광객이 급증할 것이라고 확신한다. 또 영화, TV, 소셜미디어를 통해 한국인들의 관심을 높이는 것도 한 방법이다. 한국 영화와 TV 업계는 탈린이나 에스토니아의 다른 지역에서 영화의 일부 또는 TV 시리즈의 에피소드를 촬영하는 방안을 검토해 볼 필요가 있다. 에스토니아의 낭만적인 풍경들이 에스토니아의 인지도를 높이는 데 많은 도움이 될 것이다. ▷ 에스토니아에 대한 비즈니스 정보를 얻으려면. - 에스토니아 비즈니스 허브는 평일 오전 11시부터 오후 6시까지 운영한다. 에스토니아와 비즈니스를 하고 싶은 분들은 비즈니스 허브를 방문하시거나 요청서를 보내면 된다. 또 한국인들에게 에스토니아의 전자영주권(e-Residency) 프로그램을 제안한다. 에스토니아 정부가 발행하는 디지털 증명서를 통해 글로벌 기업가들이 온라인으로 사업을 시작할 수 있다. 이 프로그램에는 약 2000명의 한국인이 참여하고 있다. 아래에는 스텐 슈베데 주한 에스토니아 대사와 인터뷰 원문을 함께 게재합니다.    Interview with Sten Schwede, Ambassador of Republic of Estonia embassy in Korea   ▷ Estonian history, culture, relationship with Korea. - Estonia has a very similar history to the history of Korea. Just like Koreans, Estonians too had to exist and at times make a hard effort to survive between much larger and more powerful neighbors in the region. Located by the Baltic Sea meant that the territory where Estonians lived was throughout the history ruled by Danes, Germans, Swedes, Poles and Russians. Finally nation’s independence was declared in 1918. So this year the Republic of Estonia celebrated its 105th anniversary. Between 1940 and 1991 Estonia was occupied by the Soviet Union. After regaining our independence diplomatic relations between Estonia and other free nations could start again 32 years ago. 1991 is the year when both Estonia and South Korea became members of the United Nations. Active bilateral relations between the two countries started the same year. Since then contacts between our countries have intensified a lot, especially in the last 5 years. In 2018 the Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid visited South Korea. Shortly after the decision was taken by our government to open our embassy in Seoul. Today, the Estonian Embassy in Seoul is up and running in the city center, at the legendary Seoul Square Building. In addition we have opened Estonian Business Hub in the lobby of the same building, which is open to everyone who might have interest to learn more about our country. The Estonian Business Hub Seoul is there to facilitate contacts between Estonian and Korean businesses and promote Estonia as an exciting travel destination.  ▷ Can you introduce tourists spots? - When visiting Estonia one should reserve time to explore country’s capital Tallinn. The old town of Tallinn is an exceptionally complete and well-preserved medieval northern European trading city. The city developed as a significant trading center in the 13th-16th centuries. Today Tallinn’s old town hosts many restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries, museums, shops, loved by tourists. Other important towns worth exploring are Tartu, Pärnu and Narva. For those who want to get out of town and experience the nature there are forests and wetlands to explore with well-prepared hiking trails and organized tours. Estonian nature is full of wildlife, so one can for example do bear or bird watching. Estonia has more than 2000 islands. The two biggest islands - Saaremaa and Hiiumaa - with their specific island culture are definitely worth visiting. In cold winters you can actually drive to those islands over an official ice-road, that is set up on the sea ice.  ▷ How much Estonians know about Korea? - Estonians know Korea well and Korean culture is getting more and more popular in Estonia. Many Estonians drive Korean cars or use Korean technology at home. More and more young people learn the Korean language and are interested in studying in Korea.  ▷ What tourist destinations would you recommend in Korea? - I would recommended Estonians to visit your beautiful capital Seoul. Then your country’s East coast, but also Busan and the Island of Jeju.   ▷ What would make exchanges between Estonia and Korea more attractive? - First, flight ticket prices should go down, so more people can visit both countries. When the situation in aviation industry normalizes, then I’m sure we’ll have a spike in tourists both ways. Secondly, one way is to raise the interest among Koreans through film, TV, social media. The Korean film and TV industry should look into options of shooting part of a film or an episode in some TV-series in Tallinn or anywhere else in Estonia. There is plenty of romantic scenery in my country. From what we know that would help a lot in awareness raising about my beautiful country. Thirdly, the Estonian Embassy and the Hub should continue what we are already doing – promoting Estonia in Korea, making sure that every inquiry about Estonia is answered so people would like to visit, work or study in Estonia, or do business with Estonia.  ▷ Anything else you want to add? - Those who would like to do business with Estonia should send us a request or visit the Estonian Business Hub which is open on weekdays between 11am and 6pm. 급작스럽게 사망한 자신의 남편을 그리워하는 내용의 동화책을 발간한 작가가 9년에 걸쳐 남편에게 약물을 투약한 것으로 알려졌다. 9일(현지시간) 미국 CNN 방송, 일간 뉴욕타임스(NYT) 등에 따르면 유타주 파크시티에 사는 세 자녀의 엄마 코우리 리친스(33)는 그간 동화책 작가로 지역 사회에 얼굴을 알렸다. 코우리는 올해 3월 ‘나와 함께 있나요?’(Are You With Me?)를 펴내고 현지 방송에도 출연해왔다. 이 책은 지난해 3월 남편 에릭 리친스가 갑자기 숨진 지 1년 만에 발간됐다. 코우리는 자신의 세 아들이 세상을 떠난 아빠를 그리워하는 마음을 위로하며, 어린이 독자들에게 소중한 사람을 잃은 슬픔을 어떻게 다뤄야 하는지 알려주고 싶다고 홍보했다. 책은 아들이 축구 경기, 첫 등교일, 크리스마스 선물 등 아빠와의 일을 추억하는 내용이다. 이 책에서 천사 날개를 단 아빠는 “당연히 나는 너와 함께 한다”면서 “네가 축구에서 골을 넣을 때, 네가 복도를 걸을 때 나는 함께하고, 우리는 모두 함께 있다”고 말한다. 코우리는 아이들이 아빠를 추모할 수 있는 것을 찾으려고 이 책을 쓰게 됐다고 밝혔다. 그는 최근 방송에서 “다른 아이들도 이런저런 방식으로 행복을 찾기 바란다”면서 “아빠는 여전히 여기 있지만 방법이 다를 뿐”이라고 말하기도 했다. 그러나 책이 발간된 지 두 달 만인 지난 8일, 남편을 살해한 용의자로 부인 코우리가 지목됐다. 남편 사망 뒤 남겨진 재산을 놓고 코우리가 시댁 가족과 분쟁을 벌이면서 범행이 드러난 것이다. 수사당국은 코우리가 남편에게 9년에 걸쳐 강력한 마약성 진통제 펜타닐을 먹였으며, 사망 직전에도 치사량을 투입한 것으로 보고 살인 등의 혐의로 기소했다. 부검 결과에 따르면 남편의 시신 체내에서 검출된 펜타닐이 치사량의 5배에 달했으며 이는 입으로 투입된 것으로 드러났다. 코우리는 지인을 통해 펜타닐을 입수한 것으로 전해졌다. 코우리의 진술에 따르면 사건 당일 자신들의 200만 달러(약 26억원) 집을 매각한 기념으로 남편에게 칵테일을 만들어줬다. 이후 아이들을 재우느라 자리를 비웠다가 4일 새벽 3시쯤 돌아와 보니 남편이 “차가운 촉감”이라며 직접 당국에 신고했다. 지역 언론이 입수한 체포영장을 보면, 리친스 부부는 200만 달러 상당의 자택 판매를 놓고 다툼을 벌였다. 코우리는 자신이 주도적으로 샀던 이 집을 즉시 팔려고 했고, 남편은 이를 반대했다. 남편은 코우리와 이혼하려 했고 최근에는 유언과 보험 수혜자를 바꾼 것으로 알려졌다. 경찰은 코우리가 지난 2월 발렌타인데이 때에도 남편을 독살하려고 했다고 밝혔다. 경찰은 당시 “에릭이 저녁 식사 뒤 갑자기 매우 아프자, 친구에게 부인이 자신을 독살하려고 한 것 같다고 말했다”고 했다. 코우리는 8일 구속돼 오는 19일 법원 심리를 받을 예정이다. 한편 코우리는 이른바 ‘데이트 강간’ 약물로 불리는 GHB(일명 물뽕)을 소지한 혐의도 받고 있다.

미국 유타주 파크 시티에 사는 여성 코우라 리친스(33)는 남편 에릭이 세상을 떠난 일년 뒤 아버지를 잃은 자녀들의 슬픔을 소재로 책을 써 제법 유명해졌다. 세 아들의 어머니인 코우리는 지난해 3월 3일(현지시간) 밤 늦게 경찰에 전화로 신고해 남편의 몸이 “손도 대지 못할 정도로 차갑다”고 말했다. 그녀는 남편이 보드카 칵테일을 마셨는데 몇 시간 뒤 아무런 반응을 하지 않았다고 경찰에 얘기했다. 그런데 부검의는 나중에 남편 에릭이 펜타닐 과다 복용으로 숨졌다는 사실을 밝혀냈다고 영국 BBC가 10일 전했다. 부검의는 그의 몸에 남은 약물 잔존량이 치명적인 수준의 무려 다섯 배에 이르렀다고 밝혔다. 방송은 다만 코우리가 범죄 혐의를 시인했는지 여부에 대해서는 보도하지 않았다. 법원 문서들에 따르면 그녀는 2021년 12월부터 지난해 2월까지 마약 관련 혐의로 체포된 적이 있는 인물에게 문자를 보내 등을 다친 투자자에게 줄 것이라며 진통제 처방전을 구해 달라고 부탁했다. 코우리는 하이드로코돈 알약들을 받았는데 “마이클 잭슨이 먹어 죽음에 이르렀던” 것보다 몇 배 센 것을 구해달라고 해 기어이 펜타닐을 손에 넣었다. 펜타닐을 받은 사흘 뒤가 발렌타인 데이였다. 둘이 함께 저녁 만찬을 든 뒤 남편은 의식을 잃고 말았지만 다행히 목숨만은 건졌다. 법원 문서에는 “에릭은 자신이 독극물에 중독됐다고 믿었다. 그는 아내가 자신을 독살하려 했다고 한 친구에게 털어놓았다”고 기재돼 있다. 그로부터 2주 뒤 에릭은 더 많은 펜타닐을 복용한 뒤 숨을 거뒀다. 코우리는 경찰에 남편이 침대에서 보드카 칵테일 ‘모스크바 뮬(Moscow Mule)’을 만들어 달라고 해서 만들어 줬고, 자신은 밤을 무서워하는 어린 자녀와 함께 잠자리에 들었다고 말했다. 몇 시간 뒤 침실로 돌아오니 남편이 아무런 반응도 하지 않았다고 했다. 코우리는 두 달 전에 그림책 ‘나랑 함께 있나요(Are You With Me)?’를 펴냈는데 사랑하는 이를 잃은 것에 아이들이 어떻게 적응해야 했는지를 담았다. 그녀는 지난달 현지 라디오 방송 KPCW 인터뷰를 통해 그 책이 자신과 세 아들들에게 평안을 가져다줬다고 털어놓았다. 코우리는 “이 책은 분명히 우리 가족에게 위안을 줬을 뿐만 아니라 같은 일을 겪는 다른 가족들에게도 분명 위안이 될 것이란 점을 우리는 알고 있었다”고 털어놓았다. 한 발 나아가 그녀는 “나의 대단한 남편과 빼어난 아버지”인 에릭에게 책을 헌정한다고 덧붙였다. 남편을 살해한 혐의 말고도 그녀는 금지약물인 GHB(일명 ‘물뽕’)를 소지하고 있었던 혐의로도 기소됐다. 이 약물은 레크레이션용으로 사용되곤 하는데, 이른바 ‘데이트 강간’에 쓰이는 약물로 거론된다. 전날 체포돼 구금된 그녀의 적부심 심사는 오는 19일 예정돼 있다고 방송은 덧붙였다.

샤픽 하샤디 주한 모로코왕국 대사 인터뷰(하)  ▷ 60년이 넘게 한국과 모로코가 친밀한 관계를 유지하고 있는 배경은 무엇인가. - 두 나라는 1962년 수교 이전부터 긴밀한 유대관계를 형성했다. 단순히 기간의 문제가 아니라 양국의 깊은 우의와 존경, 역사적 유사성 등의 결과라고 생각한다. 모로코와 한국은 국가적, 지역적, 국제적인 관심사에 대해 서로 이해하고 함께했다. 이로 인해 1962년 모로코는 아프리카 국가 중 최초로 한국 외교관계를 맺은 국가가 됐다. 이후 60년 동안 양국의 외교 관계는 꾸준히 발전해 왔다. 특히 모로코와 한국의 관계는 2022년 수교 60주년을 기념해 지난 10년 동안 지속적으로 성장하고 있다. 고위급 방문 횟수, 경제적 협력, 기술 협력, 인적 교류 등에서 유례없는 성과를 거뒀다. 지난해 7월 수교 60주년 기념 행사와 경제행사인 ‘모로코 로드쇼’ 개최, 모로코 나우(Morocco Now) 브랜드 런칭 등과 같이 정치, 경제, 문화 등에서 양국 관계는 큰 진전을 이뤄냈다. 이어 지난해 12월 서울에서 열린 양국 외교부 간 정치 협의를 개최해 양국의 미래 협력을 강화를 논의했다.  모로코와 한국은 1962년 수교를 맺었지만 양국의 인연은 더욱 거슬러 올라간다. 모로코 군인들이 유엔 프랑스 대대의 일원으로 한국전쟁에 참전했다. 두 나라는 이미 수교 10년 전에 혈육과 같은 친밀한 관계를 형성했다.  ▷ 앞으로 양국의 주요 협력 분야는. - 양국의 주요 협력 분야는 자동차 산업, 청정 에너지, 무역, 관광 및 영화 산업이다. 양국의 우수성을 바탕으로 현재와 미래의 협력 분야다.  첫째, 잠재적인 한국 투자자들에게 가장 매력적인 자동차 부문이다. 지난 10년 동안 모로코 자동차 산업은 지속적인 성장 수준으로 상승했고, 큰 기술적 진보를 이뤘다. 이로 인해 모로코는 아프리카의 첫 번째 자동차 생산국이자 유럽 연합에 대한 두 번째 자동차 수출국이 됐다. 연간 자동차 생산 능력은 70만대에 이르며 250개 이상의 자동차 회사가 국내에 설립됐다.  지리적 위치와 10억 이상의 소비자는 여러 국가 및 지역과 체결된 자유 무역 협정과 결합돼 많은 기회를 제공할 수 있다. 아프리카의 자동차 산업, 특히 하이브리드, 전기 및 수소차와 같은 높은 기술 가치가 있는 분야에서 한국의 협력을 이어갔으면 한다.  둘째, 최근 눈부신 성장을 보이고 있는 것은 항공산업이다. 배선, 기계, 판금 작업, 복합재 및 기계 조립 분야의 다양한 부문의 개발로 인해 모로코는 항공 분야 생산 기지로 선호하는 국가가 됐다.  모로코에는 140개 이상의 항공 관련 회사가 있다. 가격 경쟁력과 기술을 갖춘 공장과 노동력, 공장 및 공급업체와의 근접성, 현지 투자 자본 등을 기반으로 하고 있다. 최근 캐나다 항공기 제조사 봄바이더(Bombardier)를 비롯해, 이튼(Eaton), 헥셀(Hexcel), 스텔리아(Stelia), 알코아(Alcoa) 등과 같은 글로벌 기업들이 들어오고 있다.  모로코의 기초 연구 수준과 한국의 디지털 항공 분야 발전을 감안할 때 항공 분야의 협력은 투자자들에게 전망이 큰 분야라고 말할 수 있다.  셋째, 모로코는 기후 선도 국가로 전력의 5분의2를 재생 에너지로 공급하고 있다. 일부 화석 연료 보조금이 단계적으로 폐지되고 산업을 탈탄소화하기 위한 조치가 전 세계적으로 주목을 받았다.  모로코는 태양열, 풍력 및 수력 발전을 생산할 수 있는 엄청난 자연 잠재력을 가지고 있으며 지속 가능한 에너지 및 순배출 제로 경제로의 전 세계적 전환의 중요한 원동력이 될 수 있는 녹색 수소를 생산하기 위한 중요한 단계를 밟고 있다. 한국의 녹색 이니셔티브는 적극적인 투자와 재생 에너지 부문의 눈부신 성장으로 순조롭게 진행되고 있다. 모로코는 신재생 에너지와 청정 에너지에 관심이 있는 한국에게 훌륭하고 수익성있는 투자처다.  넷째, 코로나 팬더믹으로 인해 많은 국가들이 보건 부문과 보건 주권을 전략적 우선 순위로 설정했다. 모로코도 예외는 아니다. 모로코 제약 산업은 아프리카 대륙에서 두 번째로 큰 규모다. 정치적 안정, 자유로운 경제, 교육받은 노동력, 유럽과 미국의 품질 기준에 따라 생산하는 인증 기업의 오랜 경험을 가지고 있는 모로코는 제약 산업에 관심이 있는 한국 투자자들에게 좋은 기회다.  ▷ 모로코는 올해 10월 세계은행그룹과 국제통화기금(IMF) 연차총회를 개최하는데. - 연차총회가 오는 10월 9일부터 15일까지 모로코 중부 마라케시에서 열린다. 연차 총회는 189개 회원국의 주요 인사, 재무 장관 및 중앙 은행 총재는 물론 민간 부문, NGO, 학계, 시민 사회 및 미디어 대표가 함께 모여 경제전망, 글로벌 금융안정, 빈곤퇴치, 포용적 경제성장 및 일자리 창출, 기후변화 등 글로벌 관심사 문제를 논의한다.  1973년 케냐 나이로비에서 처음 개최된 후 아프리카에서 연차총회가 다시 열리는 중요한 총회다.  ▷ 자금세탁방지 금융대책기구(FATF)가 모로코를 관찰대상국가에서 제외했는데. - FATF는 지난 2월 파리에서 열린 총회에서 자금 세탁 및 테러자금 조달에 관여하는 ‘그레이리스트’로 알려진 관찰대상국가에서 모로코를 제외하기로 했다. 이 결정은 국왕의 지시에 따라 다양한 모로코 국가 당국 및 관련 기관이 시행한 일련의 입법, 조직, 인식 및 통제 조치에 초점을 맞춘 모로코의 노력과 적극적인 조치를 더한 것이다. 해당 목록에서 모로코를 제외하면 국가 신용등급과 국내 은행 신용등급에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것이다. 이는 국제 금융 기관과의 협상에서 모로코의 이미지와 입지를 강화할 뿐만 아니라 국가 경제에 대한 외국인 투자자의 신뢰를 강화할 것이다.   Interview with H.E. Dr. Chafik RACHADI, Ambassador of His Majesty the King of Morocco to the Republic of Korea   ▷ What is the background of the close relationship between the two countries for more than 60 years? - It should be noted that, the solid bond between the two countries, since and before the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962, is not just a matter of longevity, but also the result of content, deep friendship, respect and historical similarities, which configured both Morocco and Korea to understand each other and to comprehend, on a same level, many issues of national, regional and international interest. Thus, in 1962, Morocco was the first African country to host Korean diplomatic representation. In the ensuing sixty years, diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Korea have witnessed a steady development.  The good news is that, on top of their excellent state, the Moroccan-Korean bilateral relations, on grounds of the celebration in 2022 of the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations, have gained tremendous momentum throughout the last decade with an ever-growing number of high-level visits, economic perspectives, technical cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and the list goes on through an unprecedented number of cooperation fields.  In this regard, I should mention the organization during last year a panoply of economic, political and cultural activities such as the holding in July 2022 of an outstanding economic event (Morocco roadshow), celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations, and launching the new Brand Morocco Now in the Republic of Korea, as well as the holding, last December in Seoul, of bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries, strengthening the dynamics of bilateral cooperation and opening up new prospects for its consolidation in the future.  Although diplomatic relations were established in 1962, the connection between our two countries goes even further back, when several Moroccan soldiers participated in the Korean War as part of the United Nations French Battalion, defending the territorial integrity of this friendly country, which made the people of our two nations blood brothers, a decade before the establishment of diplomatic relations.  ▷ What are the major areas of cooperation and their future perspectives? - Concerning the second part of your question, the main sectors of cooperation are automotive industry, clean energies, trade, tourism and film industry. These are sectors of current, present and future cooperation since they represent areas of excellence and priorities for both countries. In this context, allow me to briefly present the various assets of Morocco in some of its areas of excellence representing an opportunity for cooperation with Korea. First, automotive sector, which is the most attractive to potential Korean investors. Over the last decade, the Moroccan automotive industry has risen to sustained levels of growth and joined the closed circle of automotive exporters. This expedited timeline illustrates the technological progress Morocco has accomplished. In this success story, the automotive sector can boast that it’s the 1st exporting sector of Morocco, knowing that Morocco is the 1st car producer in Africa and the 2nd car exporting country to European Union. In addition, the Kingdom’s car production capacity reaches 700.000 unit with more than 250 automotive companies established in the country. All these indicators combine with the strategic geographical position and the Free Trade Agreements signed with countries and regions that include more than one billion consumers, making Morocco an unsurpassed opportunity for Korean investors. Those looking for developing Korea’s presence in the automotive industry in Africa, especially areas with high technological value, such as hybrid, electric and hydrogen vehicles would do well to look into Morocco.  Second sector is aeronautical industry that has recently shown outstanding dynamism and remarkable growth. The development of varied sectors, especially in wiring, mechanics, sheet metal work, composites and mechanical assembly, has made Morocco a preferred destination for subcontracting in aeronautics. Today, the Moroccan aeronautic industry is made up of more than 140 companies, and its major success is based on four conditions: competitively priced qualified labor, availability of qualified subcontractors, proximity to factories and suppliers, and availability of local investment capital. The recent establishment of other global players, such as Bombardier, Eaton, Hexcel, Stelia and Alcoa, confirms Morocco's ability to attract industry leaders.  Given the quality of basic research in Morocco and the decision to prioritize the development of the digital aeronautical sector in Korea, we can say that cooperation in the field of aeronautics offers major prospects for investors.  Third, making a name for itself as a climate leader, Morocco sources almost two-fifths of its electricity capacity from renewable energy. It lays claim to some of the world's largest clean energy projects as some fossil fuel subsidies have been phased out and its actions to decarbonize industries have received worldwide praise.  Morocco has a huge natural potential to produce solar, wind and hydropower, and is taking significant steps to produce green hydrogen, which could be a critical enabler of the global transition to sustainable energy and net zero emissions economies.  Considering these factors, Morocco is surely a great and profitable investment destination for Korean investors interested in renewable and clean energies. Korea’s own green initiatives are on the right track with active investment and impressive growth in the renewable energy sector, and those looking forward to expansion will find Morocco a green ally.  Fourth, as you know, the Covid-19 pandemic has rearranged priorities in the public policies of every country, with many nations setting the health sector and health sovereignty as strategic priorities. Morocco is no exception in this matter.  Today, Moroccan pharmaceutical industry ranks second in the African continent and constitutes the second largest chemical industry in Morocco after phosphate (Morocco is the world’s largest exporter of this natural resource).  Enjoying political stability, a liberal economy, and an educated workforce, as well as having a long experience with certified companies producing according to European and American quality standards, Morocco is a great opportunity for Korean investors interested in the pharmaceutical industry.     ▷ Morocco is hosting this year the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the InternatioalMonetary Fund from 9th till 15th October in Marrakesh. Can you tell us about this event ? - These Annual Meetings brings together leading figures, Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from 189 member countries of these institutions, as well as representatives of the private sector, NGOs, academia, civil society and media, to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, inclusive economic growth and job creation, climate change, and others.   This choice is highly symbolic as it marks the return of these Annual Meetings to Africa after having been held for the first time in Nairobi (Kenya) in 1973. Given the high level of stakeholder participation, the 2023 Annual Meetings offer the opportunity for the Kingdom to strengthen its attractiveness and promote its image: a stable and tolerant, open and dynamic country, rich in its intangible heritage, secular history, culture, gastronomy, and also marked by the progress made over the last 20 years at the democratic, social and economic levels.  ▷ We have read that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has decided to remove Morocco from the 'grey list'. Can you tell us a little bit about this issue ? - The FATF's decision to remove Morocco from the enhanced monitoring process, known as “grey list”, taken during its General Assembly, held in Paris last February, comes after assessing the compliance of the Moroccan national system with international standards relating to the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.  This decision crowns the efforts and proactive actions of Morocco, pursuant to His Majesty the King’s directives, which have focused on a series of legislative, organizational, awareness and control measures, implemented by the various Moroccan national authorities and institutions concerned, under the coordination of the National Financial Intelligence Authority.  Morocco’s removal from the said list will have a positive impact on sovereign ratings and local banks’ ratings.
