다음달 세계 미술계 시선이 대한민국 서울로 쏠린다. 서울 강남구 코엑스에서 열리는 세계적인 아트페어 프리즈 서울(9월 3~6일)과 국내 최대 규모 아트페어 키아프 서울(9월 3~7일)의 동시 개최를 앞두고 19일 서울 중구 신라호텔에서 하이라이트가 공개됐다. 먼저 올해 4회를 맞은 프리즈 서울에는 전 세계 28개국 120여개 갤러리가 참여한다. 이번 프리즈 서울은 한국과 아시아 전역의 목소리를 확장하는 특별 프로젝트, 기관 협업, 큐레이션 프로그램 등을 통해 지역 생태계와의 연계를 심화한다. LG OLED는 프리즈 서울의 헤드라인 파트너로 참여해 한국 현대미술의 토대를 형성하는 데 이바지한 선구적인 작가 박서보(1931~2023)를 기리는 전용 라운지를 선보인다. 미술사적 깊이와 동시대의 새로운 흐름을 아우르는 두 개의 특별 섹션 ‘프리즈 마스터스’와 ‘포커스 아시아’가 올해도 이어진다. 프리즈 마스터스는 전후, 근대 미술을 집중 조명하는 섹션으로 돌아온다. 포커스 아시아 섹션에서는 신진 작가 10인을 조명한다. 국제 갤러리는 로터스 강, 갈라 포라스 김 등 디아스포라 작가들이 함께 참여해 한국 미술의 세계적 확장성과 생동감을 보여 준다. 가고시안은 걸그룹 뉴진스와의 협업으로 대중에게 친숙한 일본 작가 무라카미 다카시 작품을 선보인다. 갤러리 현대는 단색화 거장 정상화, 존 배 등 회화, 조각, 추상을 넘나들며 오랜 시간 자연과의 관계를 탐색해 온 작가들을 소개한다. 이번에 처음으로 프리즈 서울에 참여하는 홍콩의 블라인드스폿 갤러리는 기묘한 분위기를 자아내는 양유연의 한지 수묵화를 소개한다. 화이트 큐브는 타데우스 로팍과 함께 진행하는 앤터니 곰리의 서울 첫 개인전과 연계해 부스를 마련한다. 리안갤러리는 한국 아방가르드 미술 선구자인 이건용, 이강소 등의 주요 작업을 선보인다. 한국화랑협회가 운영하는 키아프 서울에는 전 세계 20여개국에서 175개의 국내외 갤러리가 참여한다. 24회를 맞은 올해 처음으로 주제를 내세웠다. ‘공진’이라는 주제 아래 예술이 만들어 내는 깊이 있는 연결과 회복력에 주목한다. 계약 기간 5년 만료가 1년 앞으로 다가오면서 프리즈 서울이 계속 이어질지 관심이 집중된다. 프리즈는 올해 행사 개막에 맞춰 첫 상설 공간인 ‘프리즈 하우스 서울’을 약수동에 개관할 예정이다. 지속적인 파트너십을 예고한 것 아니냐는 관측도 나온다. 이성훈 한국화랑협회장은 “아직 결정이 안 됐지만 긍정적인 입장에서 (프리즈 측과) 논의 중”이라고 밝혔다. 패트릭 리 프리즈 서울 디렉터 역시 “한국은 정말로 역동적인 문화의 한 축을 차지하고 있다”며 “서울이 글로벌 아트의 허브로서 자리잡는 데 프리즈 서울이 함께했다는 것에 감사하다. 프리즈와 키아프는 서로 ‘부부와 같은 관계’라고 할 수 있다”고 말했다.

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) of Major League Soccer (MLS) is reaping the benefits of signing Son Heung-min.
